Description
Muyō Amachi is a supporting character in the anime Tsuide ni Tonchinkan. He is a police officer assigned to the Dainihon Police Department, where he works alongside the bumbling Inspector Dokuoni to pursue the phantom thief group known as Tonchinkan. His name, which directly translates to "handle with care" or "no use," is a running gag that reflects his absurd and nonsensical role in the series.
Muyō Amachi is introduced as a former student of Nukesaku Aida, the leader of the Tonchinkan group and a teacher at Reinbou Junior High. This connection establishes a key dynamic between him and the main cast. Despite being a law enforcement officer, Amachi is depicted as being nearly as foolish and eccentric as Nukesaku himself. His brand of humor includes a signature gag called "ikinasari mae mise," or "sudden frontal exposure," where he drops his pants without warning. In terms of mental capacity, he appears to possess a peculiar intelligence: basic arithmetic causes him to generate a storm, yet he can instantly solve complex calculations that require a calculator.
He views Nukesaku with a mixture of rivalry and camaraderie, and the two share a strong, almost telepathic, bond due to their comparable levels of absurdity. Amachi is also deeply in love with his fellow officer Hiyoko Shiratori, and this relationship leads to a major story arc where he must prove himself worthy to her father. During this arc, his hidden abilities fully manifest, allowing him to nearly capture the Tonchinkan group by himself. He ultimately succeeds in his romantic pursuit and marries Hiyoko.
Throughout the series, Amachi develops from a simple police foil into a more prominent comedic presence. He is later joined by a robot duplicate of Nukesaku and an alien, forming a trio of chaotic characters who frequently stir up trouble. His abilities are largely tied to his own absurd nature, including his aforementioned intellectual quirks, his physical resilience, and his capacity to cause chaotic weather when overthinking. He is recognized as a character of significant popularity within the series, even stirring jealousy in Nukesaku due to his fan appeal.
