Aoi is a student at Shin-Inaka no Chugakko, the rural junior high school that serves as the central setting of the story. He is a classmate of the energetic Wapiko and the level-headed Shuichi Kitada. Serving as the student body treasurer, he holds an official position within the school's leadership, which is headed by the once-wealthy heiress Chitose Fujinomiya.
