Description
Girinma is a fictional character who appears as an antagonist in the anime series Yes! Precure 5. He is a member of the Nightmare organization, serving as a subordinate directly under the executive Bunbee. His name is derived from the Japanese word for praying mantis, kamakiri, which directly informs his visual design and combat style. Motivated by a strong desire for power and recognition, Girinma's primary goal is to seize the Dream Collet from the Precure team and secure a promotion to the rank of executive within Nightmare.

In his human form, Girinma projects the image of an elegant, somber young gentleman. He is typically dressed in a formal suit and wears a bowler hat, round glasses, and carries a cane. However, this civilized exterior masks a personality that is genuinely cruel, cold-hearted, and sadistic. He holds dreams, friendship, and the bonds between the Precure in contempt, dismissing them as empty fantasies. Girinma takes pleasure in the suffering of others, particularly those he considers weak, and is openly self-aware of his own cowardly and malicious nature. In stark contrast to his bullying behavior towards foes, he is notably timid and submissive before his superior, Bunbee. Unable to voice open complaints, he often mutters his dissatisfaction under his breath, displaying a classic sycophantic personality where he is cruel to the weak and obedient to the strong. Despite this fear, there is a complex dynamic to their relationship, as it is mentioned that they have a history and have spent nights talking together, and Bunbee acknowledges that Girinma was particularly active during Nightmare's invasion of the Palmier Kingdom.

Girinma serves as a recurring obstacle for the main characters. He is the first villain to appear in the series, confronting the newly awakened Cure Dream in the school library. His role in the story is defined by his repeated failures against the Precure. Each defeat causes him to grow more bitter and desperate, and he gradually loses the trust of the Nightmare leadership. Facing the threat of being dismissed from the organization, he is given a black paper, an ultimatum and final warning. Choosing to fight rather than retreat, Girinma uses this black paper, which transforms into a mask. This act causes him to lose control and evolve into a giant, monstrous final form under the command of the executive Kawarino.

In this empowered state, he is initially able to overpower nearly all of the Precure. However, after the team reconciles and strengthens their unity, they challenge him again. In his final battle at the Nightmare headquarters, he is ultimately destroyed by the team's combined attack, the Five Explosion, making him the first permanent casualty among the Nightmare members in the series. In battle, his most notable ability is his transformation from a human guise into a humanoid praying mantis. In this true form, his arms become large, sharp scythes capable of slicing through objects and creating powerful gusts of wind. In his final, more powerful state, his size, speed, and the power of his blade attacks are significantly amplified.
