Description
Hadenya is a fictional character from the anime series Yes! Precure 5. She is a prominent antagonist belonging to the Nightmare organization, introduced as a high-ranking executive who appears later in the series following the defeat of previous members like Arachnea. Her physical design is distinctive and flamboyant, reflecting her name which is derived from the Japanese word hade, meaning flashy or flamboyant. In her human disguise, she is depicted as a middle-aged woman with a plump stature, short purple hair, and bold red lipstick. Her typical outfit consists of a striking red blazer, a green ascot or scarf around her neck, matching green earrings, blue trousers, and red heels. When she enters combat, she undergoes a monstrous transformation into a large, muscular, bird-like creature with vivid, colorful feathers, resembling a hen or turkey.
Hadenya's personality is defined by immense arrogance, high pride, and a commanding presence. She is a strong woman both physically and emotionally, displaying absolute confidence in her abilities and holding a deep-seated belief that there is no value in protecting the weak. She treats her colleagues and subordinates with blunt disdain or open exploitation, showing very little respect for anyone except the leader of Nightmare, Desperaia, and occasionally her superior, Kawarino. A notable and somewhat comedic quirk of hers is blowing large kisses at Kawarino, a gesture that her fellow villain Bunbee always dodges, though it once successfully struck Kawarino and left a mark. She is ruthless and remorseless, feeling no pity for fallen comrades like Gamao and discarding people she deems useless without a second thought.
Her personal motivations and role in the story are driven by a fierce sense of pride and a personal vendetta. Before the events of the main series, Hadenya participated in the Nightmare invasion of the Palmier Kingdom. It was she who cornered the young princes, Coco and Natts, forcing them to jump off a cliff to escape. This resulted in Natts being severely injured and sealed inside the Dream Collet, a traumatic event she remembers with pride rather than remorse. She continues to target the two princes throughout the series, attempting to harm them and interfere in their bonding with the Pretty Cure. Her primary function in the narrative is to serve as a formidable physical threat. She first directly engages the Pretty Cure in episode 31, demonstrating combat prowess superior to previous antagonists. She is able to turn Cure Dream's offense into her own defense and overpower the heroines in hand-to-hand combat, even while in her human form.
In terms of relationships, Hadenya is largely a lone operative who maintains no genuine bonds within Nightmare. She expects Bunbee to serve her and is merciless toward him after his demotion. She treats the mysterious Kawarino with a level of familiarity that borders on disrespect, addressing him informally and considering him a near-equal, though she acknowledges his power. Her antagonism toward the protagonists is deeply personal, particularly with Nozomi Yumehara (Cure Dream), who develops an intense hatred for Hadenya due to her cruelty toward Coco and Natts, pushing the usually empathetic heroine to a notable state of rage.
Throughout her time in the series, Hadenya showcases several notable combat abilities. She is exceptionally skilled in hand-to-hand combat, able to hold her own against multiple opponents without transforming. In her bird-like battle form, she can fire volleys of razor-sharp red feathers as a long-range attack and possesses the ability to turn any object she holds into a weapon. Her physical strength is immense, allowing her to easily block a furious punch from Cure Dream with one hand. Hadenya's character arc culminates in her downfall. After suffering repeated failures, Kawarino offers her a black mask, a tool of forced transformation. Due to her high pride, she refuses this "promotion" and fights the Pretty Cure on her own terms. However, after she is defeated in battle, Kawarino forcibly applies the mask to her, turning her into a mindless Kowaina monster. In this final, gigantic turkey-like form, she is ultimately destroyed by the combined attack "Five Explosion" of the Pretty Cure 5. In the crossover film Pretty Cure All Stars DX2, she is resurrected by the villain Bottom, willingly embracing her monstrous form and fighting the Cures once more, even managing to break one of Milky Rose's attacks.
