Description
Mem-Mem, whose full name is Menbanu Churuchurulut Kurukururin Glutamic Acid Mendragon, is an Energy Fairy from the CooKingdom who serves as the partner of Ran Hanamichi in the anime Delicious Party Precure. He is the fairy specifically associated with noodle dishes. In terms of appearance, Mem-Mem is a small, dragon-like creature. He possesses golden blonde hair and orange horns, and his overall skin tone is yellow. His outfit is distinctive, featuring a long-sleeved dark orange shirt, a white apron with green trim, and matching scalloped shorts. He also has yellow, dragon-like wings on his back. His speech pattern is unique, as he tends to end his sentences with the verbal tic "~mem".
In terms of his background, Mem-Mem originates from the CooKingdom and traveled to the human world, specifically Oishina Town, to help find and protect the Recipepes, which are food spirits, from the antagonists who seek to steal them. He was one of a group of Energy Fairies, alongside his companions Kome-Kome and Pam-Pam, who were sent to partner with the chosen Pretty Cure warriors. He is a male fairy, and his age, when converted to human terms, is roughly equivalent to that of a four or five-year-old child.
Mem-Mem has a generous and easygoing personality. He is described as calm, level-headed, and the most rational of the three Energy Fairies, often not making a fuss about anything. However, despite this laid-back demeanor, he is also known to be capable of great passion and enthusiasm, particularly when his partner, Ran, inspires him. While he is usually very relaxed, to the point where his fellow fairy Pam-Pam notes he only shows true passion about once a year, Mem-Mem can become just as hot-blooded and energetic as Ran when his interest is ignited. He is very kind and supportive, always wanting to do his best to help his friends.
His primary role in the story is to be the companion and partner of Ran Hanamichi, who transforms into Cure Yum-Yum. Their synergy and bond allow Ran to access her Pretty Cure powers. He is instrumental in her transformation sequence, taking on a special form known as his bowl form, or Donburi form, during the process. He is the last of the three main Energy Fairies to officially join the main cast, and from the moment he meets Ran, the two click immediately, sharing a similar wavelength of energy and an open-mindedness about the existence of fairies and food spirits.
The key relationship in Mem-Mem's story is undoubtedly with his partner, Ran. He deeply admires her passion for food and her enthusiastic, creative nature. He supports her through difficult situations, and her emotions directly influence his abilities and their combined power. He is also close with the other fairies, Kome-Kome and Pam-Pam, and the mentor figure Rosemary, forming a supportive family unit. His past is intertwined with the other fairies, as it is revealed that along with Pam-Pam, he, the first-generation Kome-Kome, and a figure named Ginger had visited Oishina Town twenty years before the main events of the series, though their memories of this time appear to have been sealed.
Mem-Mem possesses several notable and unique abilities. As a dragon, he has the ability to breathe fire, which he can use to attack enemies, making him the only Energy Fairy capable of directly keeping the monster Ubauzo in check. His most distinctive skill is a form of divination called noodle fortune-telling, where he uses the leftover broth from a noodle dish as a sort of crystal ball to read fortunes or locate information. However, this ability consumes a massive amount of his sharing energy, which can directly affect his ability to power up Cure Yum-Yum's attacks, leaving her weaker in battle.
Over the course of the story, Mem-Mem develops not only in his bond with Ran but also in his own capabilities. While originally unable to transform into a human form, he gains this ability by the end of the television series. In the film Delicious Party Precure: Yume miru Oko-sama Lunch, he temporarily gains a humanoid child form, and after the final battle of the series, he is able to freely transform into this human shape at will, similar to his fairy companion Pam-Pam.
