Description
Cure Spicy is the alter ego of Kokone Fuwa, one of the main characters from the anime Delicious Party Precure. In her civilian life, Kokone is a fashionable and cool-headed second-year middle school student who loves makeup and cute things. She is the only child of a family that owns a high-class fine dining restaurant called Restaurant Du Lac, which contributes to her being seen by classmates as an unapproachable "high flower on a cliff" or a cool beauty.
Despite her elegant and mature appearance, Kokone's personality is defined by a quiet reserve that borders on introversion. She speaks little and genuinely prefers to spend time alone, finding it more comfortable than navigating what she feels to be troublesome social relationships. This aloofness is not born from arrogance but from a deep-seated difficulty in communicating her true feelings. A specific incident from her childhood shaped this behavior: after she excitedly asked her busy parents for donuts, her aunt scolded her for being selfish given her parents' hard work. This moment caused her to suppress her desires and avoid burdening others, creating an emotional distance between herself and her family, who were frequently absent due to work. Consequently, Kokone became a kindhearted girl who struggled to form close connections, mistakenly perceived as cold by those around her.
Her motivation to become a Precure is deeply tied to her desire for genuine connection. She is initially indifferent to the妖精 Pam-Pam, the bread-themed energy fairy who would become her partner. However, her life changes when she meets her classmate, Yui Nagomi (Cure Precious). Yui’s persistent kindness and refusal to be brushed off, such as when she helps Kokone move a heavy box and shares bread with her, breaks through Kokone's defenses. Inspired by Yui's genuine friendship, Kokone makes the conscious choice to fight alongside her. Her resolve to protect others and her willingness to act on her feelings allow her to resonate with Pam-Pam, granting her the power to transform into Cure Spicy, the Precure of sandwiches and spice.
Within the story, Kokone serves as the cool and strategic counterpart to the enthusiastic and energetic Yui. Her role in battles often emphasizes tactical intelligence, and her presence on the team helps to balance the group's dynamic. Her key relationships are central to her development. Her friendship with Yui is her first true friendship, teaching her how to open up. She also develops a strong bond with her partner fairy, Pam-Pam, a cheerful and puppy-like creature that she adores. As the series progresses, Kokone also reconciles with her busy parents. After a long period of feeling neglected and awkward around them, she courageously expresses her long-held feelings, using homemade bread rolls to bridge the gap and heal their strained family relationship.
Kokone undergoes significant growth throughout the series. She overcomes her fear of green peppers, learning to accept foods she once disliked. She also conquers her acrophobia, a fear of heights. Initially portrayed as a lonely girl who kept everyone at a distance, she learns to trust and rely on her friends, eventually becoming more expressive and willing to smile and communicate with her classmates. Her development is a gradual process of breaking out of her comfortable shell of solitude to embrace the warmth of community and friendship.
As Cure Spicy, Kokone wields abilities themed around bread and sandwiches. Her primary attack is called "Sandwich Press" (or Spicy Sandwich Press), where she brings her hands together to create two blue slices of bread that slam together to trap the enemy. Her main finishing move is "Precure Spicy Circle," where she uses her Heart Cure Watch to generate a blue, fragrant ring of light that she sends to envelop and purify an enemy, concluding with a phrase of gratitude. Her transformation item is the Heart Cure Watch, and she transforms alongside Pam-Pam, who takes on a "sandwich form" to aid her.
