TV-Series
Description
Daichi Hino is a male elementary school student and a supporting character in the series. He is a classmate who becomes one of the first friends of Akane Nishimura. Daichi is the best friend of Taiyo Takada, the titular clueless first friend.

In terms of background, Daichi lives with his family above their ramen shop, called Ramen Hino, which is located on the first floor of their home. His parents run the business, where he occasionally helps out. He was initially an only child, but later gains a baby sister named Shizuka, who is born just before the sports festival during the second term of sixth grade. Physically, Daichi is a tall, thin boy with spiky, dark red-brown hair and large, often sleepy-looking eyes, a trait he inherited from his father.

Daichi has a very distinct and relaxed personality. He is very much his own person, not easily swayed by others, and has a generous and kind nature. He is often described as someone who does not read the air or is oblivious to social cues. For better or worse, this trait allows him to treat Akane, who is frequently bullied and ostracized by their classmates, just like any other person without being influenced by the negative rumors surrounding her. His genuine and unpretentious approach is a key factor in helping to break down the social barriers that isolate her. Daichi has a well-documented obsession with the occult and supernatural phenomena, often trying to convince his friends about strange occurrences in the forest. He also has a very strong and particular attachment to wearing tank tops, incorporating them into his daily outfits and even using them as subjects for school activities like calligraphy and photography.

His primary motivation is not driven by a grand goal but rather by a simple, steadfast loyalty to his friends and a desire to live without pretense. He is proud to be Taiyo’s best friend and naturally accepts Akane as part of their group, not out of pity but because she is a friend of Taiyo and a good person. Daichi’s role in the story is that of a supportive and grounding secondary friend. While Taiyo is the main catalyst for change in Akane’s life, Daichi provides a sense of normalcy and quiet acceptance. He is one of the first peers to treat Akane kindly, proving to her that Taiyo is not the only one who can see past her intimidating reputation.

Key relationships are central to his character. His friendship with Taiyo Takada is his most prominent bond; they became close after a physical fitness test revealed Daichi was no longer the fastest runner in class after Taiyo transferred to his school. Daichi deeply values this friendship and is often seen alongside Taiyo. Through Taiyo, he forms a strong and caring friendship with Akane Nishimura, becoming one of her first male friends. He is considerate of both of them, as seen when he thoughtfully buys them both ramune soda during a free pool session at school. Daichi also has a childhood friend, Umi Adachi, who has romantic feelings for him. However, Daichi remains completely unaware of her affection, treating her simply as a normal childhood friend while genuinely remembering and cherishing an important promise he made with her in the past.

Daichi undergoes subtle but noticeable development, primarily through his expanding social circle. Initially, like many other students, he remained on the periphery of Akane’s life, not actively bullying her but not interacting with her either. After Taiyo arrives and begins openly befriending Akane, Daichi feels less stigma and quickly follows suit, showing that he was waiting for a cue to break from the class's cruel norm. His character further develops with the birth of his sister, Shizuka, which sees him taking on more responsibility at home and helping more frequently at the family’s ramen shop. He does not display any romantic inclinations towards any character, remaining happily focused on his friendships and peculiar interests.

Aside from his knowledge of occult subjects, Daichi possesses several practical and surprising abilities. He is notably skilled in cooking, specifically in preparing ramen, gyoza, and fried rice, which are also his favorite foods. Before Taiyo transferred to his school, Daichi was the fastest runner in his class, indicating a high level of physical fitness.
