Description
Kotarō Kitagawa is a supporting character in the anime My Clueless First Friend. He is a tall and strong fifth-grade boy with a shaved head or very short hair, often described as having a buzz cut. His appearance includes brown eyes and grayish hair. Kotarō is known for his bold and assertive personality, and he acts as the leader of a small group of classmates called the Scorpion Gang. Initially, he is one of the primary instigators of bullying directed at Akane Nishimura, the quiet girl nicknamed the Grim Reaper. Kotarō frequently taunts Akane and her new friend Taiyō Takada, making mocking comments and trying to provoke reactions from them. His motivations stem from a desire to maintain his position among his peers and to have fun at the expense of others, although his actions are not portrayed as deeply cruel. As the story progresses, Kotarō’s behavior gradually shifts. Taiyō’s unflappable positivity often leaves Kotarō’s teasing without effect, and exposure to the growing friendship between Akane and Taiyō starts to influence him. He becomes more integrated into the class dynamics, occasionally interacting with the main characters in neutral or even lighthearted ways. This development mirrors the series’ theme of overcoming social barriers, though Kotarō never entirely loses his prickly demeanor. He remains physically imposing and uses his strength to assert himself, which is notable among his classmates. His key relationships include his rivalry with Taiyō and his role as a tormentor of Akane, though these evolve over time. He also interacts with other classmates such as Daichi Hino and Sumire Kasahara, often participating in their group activities. Kotarō does not possess any special abilities, but his stature and natural leadership among the Scorpion Gang set him apart as a memorable figure within the school setting.
