TV-Series
Description
Hinata Sakaguchi is a prominent human character known as a "saint," a being who has transcended normal human limitations. She serves as the captain of the Holy Knights' Order for the Western Holy Church and is also the leader of the Ten Great Saints in the Holy Empire of Lubelius, earning her the title of "God's Right Hand" as the strongest swordsman in the Western Nations.
Hinata is originally from modern-day Japan and was transported to the new world as a young girl on the day of her high school entrance ceremony. Her background in Japan was traumatic; after her father's business failed, he became a violent and abusive gambler. Driven to end the suffering of her family, Hinata ultimately killed her father and considered doing the same for her mother, who had fallen into a deep depression and turned to a religious cult. Shortly after this, she was accidentally summoned to the other world.
Upon arriving, she was immediately forced to defend herself against bandits, an event that awakened her formidable abilities. For a time, she wandered alone, surviving through lethal force. Her path crossed with Shizue Izawa, a fellow otherworlder who became her mentor and a close friend. Although Hinata learned a great deal from Shizue, she left her after about a month, feeling she needed to follow her own path to achieve her goals. Later, witnessing the self-sacrifice of holy knights protecting civilians from a demon lord attack inspired her to join their ranks and dedicate herself to protecting humanity.
Hinata is characterized by a cool, rational, and often merciless exterior. She prioritizes logic and results over sentiment, a trait that can make her seem cold-blooded. She herself admits to being emotionally "broken" by her past. However, beneath this hardened shell is a powerful sense of duty and a genuine goal of creating a world without conflict, where equality and happiness are possible. She has a strong charisma that inspires deep loyalty from her subordinates, and she displays a caring, maternal side towards children, who are naturally drawn to her. After reconciling with the slime Rimuru Tempest, she develops a more relaxed side, showing dry humor and a strong appreciation for his recreations of Japanese cuisine, though she is a serious food lover who also has dislikes like wasabi.
Hinata's role in the story is defined by her complex relationship with Rimuru Tempest. Initially, she is deceived by false information from merchant and political forces, including Yuuki Kagurazaka, into believing that Rimuru murdered Shizue Izawa. This leads to her first confrontation with him, where she is victorious. Their second encounter, after Rimuru evolves into a Demon Lord, ends in a stalemate, revealing that the entire conflict was orchestrated by the Seven Luminaries, a council of elders within her own church who felt threatened by her rise to power. After this misunderstanding is resolved by the intervention of the vampire Demon Lord Luminous Valentine, Hinata becomes a steadfast and powerful ally to Rimuru and the nation of Tempest, frequently visiting to enjoy its amenities.
Her key relationships are central to her development. She holds immense respect for Shizue Izawa, seeing her as a mentor and friend, and eventually apologizes for leaving her as a student. Her relationship with Rimuru evolves from hatred to a deep bond; she later admits to seeing him as a father figure, pursuing the shadow of the father she had lost in him. She is a devoted servant of Luminous Valentine, a vampire she worships as the one true god, willing to carry out any order she gives. She also shares a petty and competitive rivalry with the Storm Dragon Veldora, as her soul, fused with a hero named Chloe, was the one who defeated and sealed him in the past. She grows suspicious of Yuuki Kagurazaka, a fellow student of Shizue, after discovering he was likely the source of the false information that led her to attack Rimuru.
Over the course of the story, Hinata experiences significant development. She overcomes her prejudiced hatred of monsters, reforms the Western Holy Church's doctrine to be more tolerant, and grows from an isolated, emotionally scarred loner into a cooperative leader and loyal friend. In a major arc, she sacrifices her life to protect a child, an act that triggers a time-travel event where her soul is fused with that of a hero and sent 2,000 years into the past. She is eventually resurrected by Luminous Valentine, an experience that further solidifies her character growth.
Hinata is an exceptionally powerful combatant whose strength lies in precision, technique, and efficiency rather than raw power alone. Her body has a unique constitution that automatically decomposes magicules, granting her near-immunity to standard magic. Her skills include the Unique Skill "Mathematician," which vastly accelerates her thought speed by up to a thousand times, allowing her to analyze and predict her opponent's movements with perfect accuracy, similar to an advanced combat computer. Her other Unique Skill, "Usurper," allows her to analyze and temporarily or permanently steal the abilities of her opponents, though it is less effective against the highest-tier Ultimate Skills. Her ultimate technique, "Melt Slash," is a devastating attack that combines her peerless swordsmanship with the holy magic Disintegration. This attack moves at the speed of light and is one of the most lethal anti-demon and anti-spiritual lifeform techniques in the series, capable of disintegrating the body and soul. Later in the story, after undergoing further trials and being recognized as a true hero, her Unique Skill "Mathematician" evolves into an Ultimate Skill, further elevating her power.
