OVA
Description
Gum is a pivotal character in the narrative, created specifically to be the child of the giant golden warrior Magma and his wife Mol. Despite his artificial origins, Gum is designed to look and behave like a human boy, roughly the size and developmental stage of a child around eight or nine years old. His model is the human boy Mamoru Murakami, whose appearance and basic structure were used as a template for Gum's creation by the powerful being known as Earth.

In terms of personality, Gum is characterized by a strong and unyielding will. He is portrayed as a stubborn child who refuses to compromise his principles, especially when confronted by evil. This resolute nature is a core part of his identity; he would sooner face destruction than submit to villainy. Despite being an artificial life form created for a specific purpose, Gum displays a full range of emotions and forms deep familial bonds. He approaches his designated parents, Magma and Mol, with the respect and affection of a biological child, even seeking comfort and indulgence from them. This presents a unique dynamic where clearly defined familial roles and ethics are maintained despite their synthetic origins.

Gum’s primary motivation is to assist his parents in their mission to defend Earth from the alien invader Goa. He is not merely a passive observer but an active participant in the struggle, ready to throw himself into battle without an extended training period. In times of crisis, he is one of the key defenders who can be summoned by Mamoru’s whistle to confront the various monsters unleashed by the invading force. His role in the story is therefore that of a young warrior and a cherished family member in a unique household of heroes.

His most significant relationships are with his parents, Magma and Mol. The depth of their bond is most evident during moments of peril. On one occasion, when Gum is captured by Goa, Mol immediately insists on a rescue, fearing her stubborn son would be killed for his defiance. Magma, while sharing this concern, prioritizes the immediate global threat, stating that Gum's life must be dedicated to the cause of justice. The couple agrees to retrieve him only after their victory, demonstrating a profound and tragic interplay of selfless duty and intense parental love. Gum’s relationship with Mamoru is also foundational, as he is essentially a duplicate of the human boy, creating a unique mirror-relationship between them.

Throughout the story, Gum undergoes subtle development as a combatant and as a person. He grows into his role as a hero, consistently participating in the defense of Earth. His development is less about a change in personality and more about the deepening of his existing traits—courage, stubbornness, and family loyalty.

In terms of abilities, Gum is not a normal boy. Created by the wizard Earth to be the child of two powerful defenders, he possesses capabilities far beyond a human child. While his specific powers are not as prominently displayed as the size-shifting or rocket transformations of Magma, he is built for combat and can engage in battle against alien threats. His very creation is evidence of his abilities; he was brought into existence fully formed with the default knowledge and mental structure needed to participate in the mission, functioning in many ways like a highly advanced robot or android built for war, yet with the heart and spirit of a child.
