Description
Bibble, known as Teak in the original Japanese version, is a character from the 1981 anime film Sea Prince and the Fire Child. He is a young sea creature whose design is based on a shark boy.
As a character, Bibble is defined first and foremost by his deep admiration and loyalty for Sirius, the Sea Prince. He is often seen in Sirius's company, and their relationship is a central part of his identity. In the early part of the story, Bibble is portrayed as a somewhat bumbling and playful companion who enjoys simple pastimes such as catching jellyfish. Despite his initial clumsiness, he proves to be remarkably observant and courageous, especially when his friend is in danger.
Bibble's primary motivation is his devotion to Sirius. This drives his key actions throughout the film. When Sirius is imprisoned for breaking the taboo by meeting with Malta, the Fire Princess, Bibble takes the initiative to try and rescue him. His loyalty is not passive; he demonstrates a willingness to make significant personal sacrifices for the prince. In one of the most poignant moments of the story, Bibble offers Sirius the horn from his own head, stating that it is all he has to give.
His role in the narrative is that of the steadfast and loyal sidekick. He is present during key events, including a jellyfish attack on the undersea kingdom while Sirius is absent, where Bibble himself is injured. He also plays a crucial role in a dangerous quest, suffering a mortal wound while attempting to recover the eye of the wind lord Argon. This act of self-sacrifice is a turning point that highlights his growth from a simple playmate into a true hero.
Bibble's most significant relationship is with Sirius, whom he admires greatly. He is a devoted companion who remains by the prince's side through perilous situations. His character undergoes notable development, transforming from a somewhat bumbling and carefree youth into a courageous figure whose final sacrifice is remembered as one of the film's most emotionally resonant moments. In terms of abilities, Bibble is an aquatic being, and his most notable physical feature is the horn on his head, which he is able to pluck off and offer as a gift.
