Description
Kyōko Suomi is the first princess of the Earth Nation in the thirtieth century, a period when the planet is unified under a single global government. She initially appears as a headstrong and somewhat selfish junior high school student who lives among commoners while hiding her royal identity, preferring a carefree school life over the responsibilities of the throne. Her primary motivation is to avoid being crowned queen, a fate that would force her to give up the ordinary life she enjoys. To that end, she accepts a quest from her father, the king: she must find twelve telepaths known as Strangers, each holding a holy stone, and use their combined powers to awaken her twin sister, Ui, who has been in a suspended sleep since birth. If Ui wakes, she will take the throne, and Kyōko will be free to continue living as she pleases.

Despite her early reputation for being lazy and selfish, Kyōko possesses a strong sense of empathy and a courageous heart. She frequently risks her own safety to protect others, as seen when she reveals her identity to save her friend from a gang. This act of nobility triggers the awakening of the first god stone, the Time‑Space Stone, which transforms Kyōko herself into the Time Stranger. The stone manifests as a talking sage‑scorpion‑shaped cane called the Time Scorpion Cane, which grants her the ability to stop time and travel through it. She becomes the leader of the twelve Strangers, destined to guide them in the quest to wake Ui.

As the story progresses, Kyōko undergoes significant personal growth. She begins as a reluctant princess who merely wants to escape her duties, but her journey teaches her to appreciate her position and the people around her. She decides that even after Ui awakens, she will continue to serve as a princess. Her motivations shift from self‑interest to genuine care for her family and friends, culminating in a willingness to sacrifice her own physical existence for her sister’s sake. The revelation that she is not biologically related to the royal family but is the daughter of Chronos, the god of time—placed into Ui’s body as a child to mature—deepens her internal conflict. She accepts her divine nature but ultimately longs to remain with those she loves.

Key relationships shape her arc. Her romantic bond with Sakataki Jin, her skilled and serious bodyguard, develops from mutual respect into deep love; they eventually marry. Her relationship with Hizuki Jin, Sakataki’s brother and her other protector, is complicated by his hidden demonic nature and a brief, forced engagement to save his life. Her bond with her twin sister Ui is the emotional core of her quest: Kyōko wishes to meet and speak with the sister she has never known, and Ui’s awakening forces Kyōko to confront her true origins. The king, her adoptive father, remains a loving but distant figure who ultimately gives her a new human body so she can return to the mortal world.

Kyōko’s notable abilities center on time manipulation. As the Time Stranger, she can halt the flow of time around her and travel to the past. The Time Scorpion Cane serves as her conduit, helping her focus her power and also acting as a communicator and guide for the other Strangers. Through these powers, she plays the central role in the plan to wake Ui, and later uses them to facilitate her own return to the human world. Her development from a flighty, self‑centered girl into a selfless, determined leader is the main character arc of the series, concluding with her marrying Sakataki and continuing to live as both a princess and a sister to Ui.
