Description
Soldato J-002 is the only known surviving member of the Soldato Division, a group of combat cyborgs created by Abel, the leader of the Red Planet, to command the J-Ark fleet and fight against the Z-Master. The Soldato units were meant to work alongside the Alma bioweapons, living computers, and J-Ark battleships as a unified force, but the failure to coordinate these elements contributed to the collapse of the Red Planet's defenses and the eventual mechanization of the entire world. During the war, Soldato J's own J-Ark computer, Tomoro 0117, was lost to Zonder infection, and his J-Ark was sent into space to protect the infant Alma onboard, leaving J to fight alone. He confronted Arm Primeval, one of the leaders behind the offensive on his home world, and barely lost the encounter before fleeing into the wasteland that his planet had become. He was then captured by his own living computer, which had been transformed into the Zonderian known as Pinchernone, and converted into the Zonderian warrior Pizza, with the memory of his proud past sealed away.

As Pizza, he served as one of the Four Machine Kings enforcing the mechanization of Earth and the solar system, accompanying the Zonderian terminal program Pasder with the order to infect humanity with Zonder Metal. Even in this corrupted state, he experienced brief flashes of his former life. His personality as a warrior was defined by pride, discipline, and a strong sense of purpose, traits that slowly resurfaced through his repeated duels with Guy Shishioh of the Gutsy Galaxy Guard. The rivalry between Pizza and Guy became central to his recovery, as each battle restored more of his old dignity and his awareness of his original mission. In a moment of defiance against the Zonder influence, Pizza shielded his rival from a direct attack by Pasder and was left critically wounded. He was saved by his Arma, a being who had landed on Earth and adopted the identity of Ikumi Kaidou. Kaidou performed a Purification on both Pizza and Pinchernone, restoring them to their true forms and returning Soldato J's memories and identity.

After his restoration, Soldato J resumed his original mission of destroying the Z-Master, viewing it as his duty and his reason for existing. He reunited with his team aboard the J-Ark, which had crashed within Mount Aso in Kyushu, Japan, and waited for the arrival of the 31 Machine Primevals. When the Primevals reached Earth, J and his crew began an independent campaign against them, initially ignoring the Gutsy Galaxy Guard and even clashing with them directly. As both sides recognized their shared goal, they began to cooperate grudgingly, with J emerging as a powerful anti-hero ally rather than a conventional member of the team. During this period, he also confronted and destroyed Soldato J number 019, the other surviving member of the Soldato Division, who had pledged loyalty to the Z-Master and had his J-Jewel replaced with a Zonder Crystal. In the final battle against the Z-Master, J and Kaidou entered the Heart Primeval and set THE POWER within the J-Ark to overload, creating a cascade reaction that destroyed the Z-Master from within while critically damaging King J-Der. J and his crew accepted this as a fair trade and were fully willing to sacrifice themselves to end the Zonder threat.

The J-Ark survived the final fight and was hurled through a wormhole to a point roughly ninety million light-years outside the known universe, where it slowly restored itself. Tomoro 0117 determined from that vantage point that the universe was contracting, and the J-Ark tracked the source back to the solar system, emerging near Jupiter, where they found an exhausted Mamoru Amami and a mysterious device called the Pas-Q Machine. When Pia Decem of the 11 Planetary Masters of Sol attacked, Kaidou returned to Earth with the machine while J retreated to the Tri-Star System with Mamoru. Soldato J and the J-Ark covered Mamoru's retreat to the G-Crystal but were captured and imprisoned on the repli-Earth created by the Pas-Q Machine, held at Mont Saint Michel. They were later freed by Renais-Kerdif Shishioh and Mikoto Utsugi, only to face Palus Abel, the leader of the 11 Masters, whose programming was based on Abel herself. Palus Abel revealed that she had captured Ikumi Kaidou and was using him as the living computer core of the Pia Decem Pit, forcing King J-Der into combat with a mind-controlled Guy Shishioh. The clash between J-Quath and the Goldion Hammer destroyed both weapons. Palus Abel then routed remote commands through Kaidou to shut down the J-Ark and Soldato J's own J-Jewel, allowing Pia Decem and Pillnus to capture J and Renais. They escaped by accident when the proximity of Renais's G-Stone to Soldato J's J-Jewel restored them both and activated their Hyper Modes, at which point J's helmet was partially broken, revealing his eyes for the only time in the series. With the J-Ark reactivated, they proceeded to confront Palus Abel aboard the Pia Decem Pit.

As a combatant, Soldato J possesses impressive cyborg strength and speed. The green scarf attached to his armor can extend and harden into a pair of wings that allow him to fly, and his left gauntlet contains an energy sword called the Radiant Ripper, which can be used with one hand while attached or with both hands when drawn. His true power is realized through his mecha, J-Der, known as the J-Bird in its unfused form, which combines with the J-Carrier to form King J-Der, one of the largest heroic robots in the Brave series. King J-Der is equipped with arm cannons, finger-mounted lasers, and the powerful finishing attack known as J-Quath. J's key relationships include his rivalry and eventual mutual respect with Guy Shishioh, his bond with Ikumi Kaidou as his Arma and partner, his connection to Tomoro 0117 as his living computer, and his fraught history with the other Soldato survivors and the forces that once controlled him. His development traces a path from mechanized servant of the Zonders to restored guardian warrior, one who reclaims his pride, resumes his duty, and ultimately proves willing to sacrifice everything to fulfill it.
