Mitsuaki Madono
Description
Mitsuaki Madono is a veteran Japanese voice actor born on July 28, 1964, in Osaka, Japan. He has been active in the industry since his debut in 1989 and is currently affiliated with Aoni Production, having moved there from Mausu Promotion in April 2007.
His interest in performing arts was sparked during a solitary childhood in Osaka, where watching Yoshimoto comedy shows made him aware of the power of entertainment to comfort and please others. This was complemented by encouragement from a high school friend who complimented his voice, leading him to pursue a career in acting and eventually voice acting. He joined a theater company during university and later attended a voice actor training school.
Madono is known for his versatile vocal range, capable of portraying a wide spectrum of characters. He can embody cool and collected individuals, such as Soldat J in The King of Braves GaoGaiGar, as well as comedic and buffoonish roles, like Kon in Bleach. He is also skilled at playing eccentric or mysterious characters, with notable examples including Papillon in Buso Renkin and Toru Adachi in Persona 4. In addition, he is proficient in speaking Kansai and Hiroshima dialects.
Throughout his long career, Madono has built an impressive filmography across anime, video games, and tokusatsu. Some of his most recognized anime roles include the jester-like modified soul Kon in Bleach, the pragmatic and often conflicted Kaname Ohgi in Code Geass, and the traitorous Kamotaro Ito in Gintama. He has also been a consistent presence in the Fate franchise, providing the voice for Issei Ryuudou across multiple adaptations including Fate/stay night and Today's Menu for the Emiya Family. Other significant roles include the villainous Kotaro Yanagisawa in Assassination Classroom, the mysterious Joker in Flame of Recca, and the airheaded Maron Glasse in Sorcerer Hunters.
In the world of video games, Madono is particularly well-known for his portrayal of Toru Adachi in the Persona 4 series, a character whose seemingly harmless exterior hides a more complex and sinister nature. He has also voiced Josuke Higashikata from JoJolion in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fighting games, the composer Frederic Chopin in Eternal Sonata, and Yuuki Jaggar in the Super Robot Wars series.
Madono is also a familiar voice in tokusatsu, most notably as the villainous Air Pollution Minister Kitaneidas in Engine Sentai Go-onger, a role he has reprised in several subsequent movies and specials. His work extends to dubbing foreign content, where he is the primary voice actor for South Korean star Kwon Sang-woo and the official Japanese voice of Kermit the Frog from The Muppets.
