OVA
Description
In the concluding OVA series Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu Final, the character of Doctor Clive is given significant development, with his role expanding beyond that of a simple comedic antagonist to reveal a more complex and tragic personal history. Clive is a central figure in the story, primarily known for his complicated relationships with the main characters, particularly his son, Hale, and Hale's mother, Weda.

Clive is the resident physician at the school in the jungle village, a position that demands competence, which he displays in his medical work despite his otherwise flawed personality. His character is defined by a stark and often infuriating duality. To women, he is charming, kind, and sympathetic; to everyone else, especially men and young boys like Hale, he is apathetic, rude, and histrionic. This behavior is driven by his nature as an incorrigible womanizer, a trait that is the source of much of his conflict with others. Another notable weakness is his extreme susceptibility to alcohol, becoming completely drunk after consuming as little as a single beer.

His background, explored more deeply in the Final installment, reveals the roots of his dysfunctional adult personality. Clive had a profoundly unhappy childhood, growing up without a father and suffering mistreatment from his mother from a very young age. This past casts his present actions as a cycle of neglect and immature coping mechanisms. A significant part of his personal history in the jungle is a peculiar situation with Dama, the village hairdresser, who becomes obsessed with the belief that Clive is the reincarnation of her deceased husband. He is forced to dye his naturally white hair black to avoid this unwanted attention, as the only resemblance he bears to her late spouse is his original hair color.

The most crucial element of Clive's backstory is his relationship with Weda. He had a brief relationship with her when she was only fourteen years old, a union from which, according to Weda, their son Hale was born. Following this, he disappeared from her life for a full ten years before eventually arriving in the jungle to work as a doctor. This history creates a tense and volatile dynamic in the present. He and his son Hale constantly clash and argue, with Weda frequently being the subject of their disputes. Clive is widely seen as an irresponsible father, a perception that the narrative acknowledges and dissects.

In Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu Final, Clive's role in the story is to address these unresolved threads from the past. The OVA delves more deeply into his history, providing context for his perversions and his failings as a parent. A key part of his arc in this concluding chapter is seeing his relationship with Hale improve "a little" as they come to a better, if still imperfect, understanding of one another. He remains the school doctor, but his motivation shifts from pure self-interest as the story forces him to confront the consequences of his past actions. His notable abilities are limited to his professional medical skills; his true power within the narrative lies in his capacity to create drama and conflict, which in Final gives way to a small but meaningful potential for growth and familial connection.
