Description
Takeru Yamato is a recurring protagonist throughout the Dragon Knight franchise.
In the original 1989 game, he arrives in Strawberry Fields, a land inhabited solely by women, as a wandering swordsman. After proving his combat skills, he accepts Queen Neina's mission to infiltrate the Goddess Tower, rescue captured female warriors, and retrieve six stolen jewels from the Dragon Knights. While motivated by the queen's promised reward, he also demonstrates a readiness to help others despite his somewhat lecherous nature.
The 1990 sequel, Dragon Knight II, finds him arriving in the village of Phoenix, cursed by the witch Mesaanya. He undertakes a quest to break this curse, which transformed village girls into monsters, partnering with the merchant Baan and the priestess Sophia. This journey expands his background, revealing him as the son of a god. This divine heritage allows him to wield the legendary Genji Armor and Falcon Sword in the final battle against Mesaanya, marking a pivotal point in his character.
The 1991 OVA adaptation depicts him infiltrating a demon-filled castle to recover jewels and rescue captured female warriors, reinforcing his role as a rescuer facing supernatural threats. The 1995 OVA, "Another Knight on the Town," introduces a narrative where he saves a girl named Jodis, who initially disguised herself as a boy. After sharing a night together, he later rescues her from kidnappers, showcasing his consistent pattern of protecting vulnerable individuals.
Across all media, his characterization remains constant: a womanizing yet heroic adventurer who combats magical threats, rescues women in peril, and occasionally uncovers deeper aspects of his identity, such as his divine lineage. His actions typically involve dungeon exploration, combat against transformed or cursed female enemies, and eventual triumph through combat prowess and magical artifacts.
