TV-Series
Description
Guy Shishio is the central protagonist of GaoGaiGar, a man defined by extraordinary courage and an indomitable will. Before becoming a cyborg, he was an astronaut and test pilot for the Space Development Corporation. His life changed in 2003 when an alien object, later designated EI-01, appeared in his flight path and caused a catastrophic collision, leaving him mortally wounded. The alien mechanical lion Galeon retrieved the critically injured Guy and brought him back. To save his son, Leo Shishio, a brilliant scientist, used technology derived from Galeon to rebuild Guy as a cyborg, giving him a mechanical heart powered by a G-Stone.
Guy’s personality is the core of his character. He is incredibly brave, enthusiastic, and possesses a strength that refuses to give up, even at the potential cost of his own life. He is famously hot-blooded in battle, shouting his attack names with powerful conviction, yet outside of combat he is often calm and composed. This balance shows a sensitive and intimate side, proving he is more than just a bombastic hero. He feels a deep sense of responsibility to use his enhanced cyborg body to protect humanity, viewing it as his duty. His primary motivation stems from his near-death experience and the second chance he was given. He is driven to protect life and defend Earth from the alien threats of the Zonders and later the Sol Masters.
In the story, Guy serves as the field commander of the Mobile Unit of the Gutsy Geoid Guard (GGG). Though legally declared dead after his accident, he joins the organization and becomes mankind's greatest warrior against the Zonder threat. He is the pilot who fuses with Galeon and the various GaoMachines to form the giant robot GaoGaiGar and later, in the OVA series, GaoFighGar and Genesic GaoGaiGar. He acts as a mentor and big brother figure to the young psychic boy Mamoru Amami, inspiring the child to grow into his own courage. His most significant relationship is with Mikoto Utsugi, his girlfriend from high school and a GGG computer operator. Their bond is deeply tested when Mikoto is transformed into the new machine species Zonuda, and Guy must save her.
Guy’s development is marked by two distinct physical states. Initially, he operates as Cyborg Guy, mankind's strongest cyborg, who relies on his G-Stone and mechanical body to fight. However, following a climactic battle with Zonuda, his body is infected and transformed, allowing him to become Evoluder Guy. As an Evoluder, his body surpasses human limits, allowing him to interface directly with machinery, survive in space, and fly. This evolution signifies a transition from a man saved by technology to a new, empowered form of life, one often referred to as the God of Destruction.
As a cyborg, Guy possesses several notable abilities. He wears a GaoBrace on his left arm, which houses his G-Stone and a signaling device to summon Galeon. He also carries a Will Knife, a blade whose sharpness is determined by the user's willpower. For combat data, he uses a lens over his right eye. In desperate situations, he can enter Hyper Mode by tapping into energy batteries, which raises his power to its absolute limit for three minutes at the cost of severe physical strain. After becoming an Evoluder, his abilities shift to a more organic power. He can interface with and control machinery through his will, notably piloting the badly damaged GaoFighGar through sheer force when all other systems failed. In this state, a green glowing aura surrounds him, and the G symbol appears on his hand when he calls upon his power.
