TV-Series
Description
Picot is a small, boy-shaped robot that belongs to the Blocker Corps and operates from the Astro mothership base. Despite its small stature and cute, mascot-like exterior, it is considerably more capable than its appearance suggests. Unlike the four large piloted battle robots of the corps, Picot moves and acts according to its own will, and this autonomy once leads it to question the difference between humans and robots. It identifies itself as the self-appointed caretaker of Asuka Tenpei, the main pilot of the group, and speaks with a distinctive verbal tic, ending its sentences with the phrase da kotto.
In the story, Picot serves as a support robot within the Astro base, assisting the corps in active and sometimes unexpected ways. It takes part in combat using machines that it has built itself, helps with the operation of the Astro mothership, and is generally more involved in events than its mascot-like role might suggest. When Picot suffers a malfunction at one point, the corps leader and scientist Gansaku Ishida carries out the repairs, which highlights the robot's reliance on the team's technical support and its place within the group's daily operations.
Picot's core motivation is loyalty to the Blocker Corps, and especially to Tenpei, whom it willingly looks after. Its protective attitude and readiness to support the team in practical tasks define its personality. The temporary crisis of identity it experiences, as it reflects on what it means to be a self-aware robot, adds a thoughtful dimension to its development as a character throughout the series.
In terms of abilities, Picot is notably powerful for its size. It possesses enough physical strength to catch incoming missiles, can fly, and can generate jet thrust from the soles of its feet. It is also able to sense Elepas waves, the psychic energy that plays a central role in the battles of the series, and its strength is sometimes described as being on the order of one hundred thousand horsepower. Combined with its self-built machines and its ability to assist with the mothership, these traits make Picot a small but valuable member of the Blocker Corps.
