Description
Dr. Kiwi Grecovich is a central figure in the anime Choriki Robo Galatt, where he serves as the primary catalyst for the story's conflict and resolution. A self-proclaimed genius inventor, this eccentric and morally ambiguous scientist is 58 years old and is best described as a mad scientist archetype, always in motion and perpetually struggling to secure funding for his various research projects.

His personality is a complex mix of brilliance, opportunism, and deeply flawed personal inclinations. While his inventive capabilities are undeniable, he is fundamentally untrustworthy and manipulative. Upon learning of the alien invasion by the Space Real Estate syndicate, which deploys giant robots called Armoroboids that the disarmed Earth police cannot stop, Dr. Kiwi sees a lucrative business opportunity rather than a threat to humanity. He approaches the police with a fabricated story, claiming he can contact a group of righteous aliens who control a powerful robot called Galatt and that he alone can broker their aid for a fee. In reality, there are no benevolent aliens; Dr. Kiwi has secretly and forcibly modified Jumbow, the small personal robot of a young boy named Michael Marsh, into the super robot Galatt. He then pressures Michael into piloting the robot to fight the aliens, all while maintaining the deception to extract money from the authorities. A significant and controversial part of his characterization includes a demonstrated attraction to the thirteen-year-old Patti Pumpkin, a trait that has been noted as a source of the series' dark humor.

Dr. Kiwi's primary motivation is financial gain, driven by his need to fund his unconventional research. He plans to make a fortune by capitalizing on the chaos of the alien invasion, acting as an intermediary for a hero that he himself created. His role in the story is that of the mastermind and puppet master behind the Galatt team. He is not a fighter on the front lines but the strategist, mechanic, and manipulator who orchestrates the entire operation from the shadows. He directly recruits the young pilots, cajoling Michael into becoming the first pilot, being asked by Patti to remodel her robot Patigu (which becomes Galatt #2) so she can join the battles, and eventually transforming Camille Cashmere Jr.'s robot Kamigu into Galatt #3 as a form of apology after swindling the formerly wealthy youth. To conceal their identities and the illegal nature of their weaponized robots, he provides the children with costumes and goggles, spinning a public lie about the origin of their power.

His key relationships are almost entirely transactional and built on manipulation. He has no genuine heroic bond with the young pilots, whom he keeps in the dark about his true, profit-driven motives. He maintains a deceitful working relationship with the local governor, who regularly calls him to request the dispatch of Galatt. For transportation, Dr. Kiwi is often seen flying at high speed on a horse-shaped robot named Silver. His personal life includes a pestering assistant named Sakuko Jidaiin, who appears later in the story and is deeply nearsighted. Dr. Kiwi is also noted to have an old friend, Kinokuniya Bunta, an elderly man with a Japanese aesthetic who rebels against the global ban on battle robot development and is later taken advantage of by the Space Syndicate.

Regarding development, Dr. Kiwi remains a consistently self-serving character throughout the narrative, though his machinations are the engine that drives the plot forward. His true nature as a con artist is not widely known to the general public or the authorities he deceives. The comedic tragedy of his character is that while he lies and manipulates for personal profit, his actions inadvertently create the only defense force capable of saving Earth from the alien invaders. His most notable ability is his genius-level intellect in robotics and mechanical engineering. In a world where weapons are completely outlawed, he possesses the singular skill to illegally modify everyday helper robots into powerful, transformable combat mecha, creating the Galatt robots that are the only effective counter to the alien Armoroboids. This technical prowess, combined with his cunning and utter lack of scruples, defines his role as the controversial founder of Earth's secret defense force.
