Description
Lala is a female Adélie penguin and a supporting character in The Adventures of Scamper. She is the mate of Toto and the mother of the main character, Lolo. Her background is deeply tied to the colony’s seasonal cycle: she participates in the annual return to the nesting grounds, mates with Toto, and lays eggs. When she returns from hunting, she discovers that Toto has rescued a stray egg that had been stolen by skuas. She accepts his explanation and agrees to return the egg to its rightful parents, keeping only their own single egg. This moment reflects her fairness and trust in her partner.

Lala’s personality is gentle and nurturing. She displays a quiet, devoted maternal instinct and a calm patience, especially when caring for the newly hatched Lolo. Her primary motivation is the safety and well-being of her family, particularly her son. In the story, her role is concentrated in the early episodes: she is present during Lolo’s hatching and his early days in the colony, providing warmth and protection. As Lolo grows older and becomes more independent, she recedes into the background, appearing only when the family unit is threatened by outside dangers.

Her key relationships are with Toto, her loyal and resourceful mate, and Lolo, her inquisitive son. She forms a stable and caring parental pair with Toto, and Lolo inherits his curiosity and sense of adventure from his father while his mother’s steady presence grounds him. Lala does not undergo significant character development herself; she remains a constant, caring figure whose influence is felt in Lolo’s early foundation. Her notable abilities are typical of an Adélie penguin mother: she can identify her own chick among the crowd, hunt for fish to feed her young, and endure the harsh Antarctic climate while guarding the nest.
