Description
Mamezo is one of the three main microid protagonists in the anime Microid S, alongside Yanma and Ageha. He is identified as the Beetle Boy, reflecting his insect-inspired design and abilities. Like his companions, Mamezo is a microid—a miniature humanoid being created by the advanced insect empire Gidoron. The microids are genetically reduced to insect size and raised in slavery within Gidoron’s underground domain, but they retain human intelligence and emotions. Mamezo escapes with Yanma and Ageha to warn humanity of Gidoron’s plan to exterminate pollution-causing humans and take over the world.
In terms of personality, Mamezo is portrayed as a loyal and courageous ally, though he is less prominently featured as a leader compared to Yanma. He is dependable in battle and often acts alongside the group, showing a strong sense of duty and compassion. His motivations are driven by the need to protect both humans and the natural world from Gidoron’s destruction, as well as a personal desire for freedom and justice. In the anime, Mamezo develops a bond with a human girl named Ruriko in one episode, where he steps in to help her against bullies, revealing a protective and kind-hearted side.
Within the trio, Mamezo’s relationships are defined by deep camaraderie and trust. He works closely with Yanma, who acts as the group’s leader, and Ageha, the only female member. Together, they form a balanced team, supporting each other through constant attacks from Gidoron’s mutants and robotic assassins. His relationship with the scientist Dr. Midoro and his son Manabu, the humans who befriend them, is one of mutual respect and cooperation.
Mamezo undergoes subtle development throughout the series, growing more confident in his role as a protector and learning to navigate the human world despite his small size. He faces personal challenges, such as when Gidoron’s agents use mind control or deception against him or his friends, testing his resolve.
Mamezo’s notable abilities stem from his microid physiology and equipment. He wears a specialized microid suit that allows him to fly by extending wings from his back, and his helmet is equipped with a blade known as the microid knife, used for combat. The helmet also can emit light in darkness. He can perform special attacks, such as the Microid Shock, though these expend his energy. In the manga version, his wings and knife are natural parts of his body rather than suit attachments. His small size grants him stealth and agility, enabling him to move unnoticed in the human world while fighting enemies many times his scale.
