Description
Black is a supporting antagonist in the 1965 anime series Hustle Punch. He serves as one of two primary henchmen to the main villain, Gari-Gari, who is a mad scientist wolf. Black is characterized as a gangster cat, a description that informs both his visual design and his aggressive, streetwise demeanor. His role in the story is to act as muscle and an enforcer for Gari-Gari's various schemes to acquire the junkyard where the protagonists live. He is almost always seen carrying out his boss's orders alongside his partner in crime, Nyu.

While the series focuses primarily on the comedic exploits of the three main characters, Punch, Touch, and Boom, Black's function within the narrative is very clearly defined. He is the more active and dangerous of the two henchmen. His most notable ability is his proficiency with a firearm; he is frequently depicted wielding a gun and shooting at the main characters in an attempt to thwart their efforts or eliminate them as a threat. This makes him a physical threat distinct from Gari-Gari, who relies more on inventions and cunning plans. Unlike his partner Nyu, who is described as simple-minded and possessing great physical strength, Black is portrayed as more cunning and ruthless, taking direct and aggressive action.

Black's primary motivation is tied directly to his employer. He works for Gari-Gari to help him achieve his goal of building a mansion over the protagonists' junkyard home. There is no information available regarding any personal goals, backstory, or deeper motivations for Black beyond his function as a hired henchman. His development throughout the series is static; he consistently fulfills the same role as the gun-wielding antagonist in each episode, without undergoing any significant character arc or change in allegiance. His key relationship is with Gari-Gari, to whom he shows loyalty as an employee, and with Nyu, his fellow henchman, with whom he partners in most of the villainous attempts against Punch and his friends. The character is defined by his actions as a gangster and an enforcer, providing a recurring source of conflict that the heroes must overcome.
