Description
Van Gansa hails from the Gansa clan in the fictional kingdom of Aquafa. He once led the elite Lone Antlers warriors, defenders against imperial invasion. After Aquafa fell to the Empire of Zol, Van was captured and enslaved, enduring brutal years in a Zol salt mine instead of perishing in battle.

Imprisonment brought profound loss: his wife and son succumbed to the deadly Black Wolf Fever sweeping the land, leaving him scarred and detached. A supernatural attack by disease-infected black dogs on the mine proved pivotal. Van protected a young girl, Yuna, during the assault. Both were bitten but survived when others died, awakening inexplicable abilities in Van – enhanced strength and the power to manipulate destructive, glowing energy.

Van escaped the mine with Yuna, whose family was also dead. Despite no blood tie, he became her guardian. They found refuge in a remote village blending Zolian and Aquafan cultures. Van's deep knowledge of native pyuika deer-mounts aided their integration into agrarian life. His bond with Yuna became central, gradually healing his emotional wounds and rekindling his capacity for connection.

This peace shattered when militant Aquafan factions from the unconquered Fire Horse Territory kidnapped Yuna. Van embarked on a perilous rescue mission, reluctantly aided by Zolian physician Hohsalle and tracker Sae. His journey exposed political machinations: Aquafan King Hohsalle Yugalu had weaponized the Black Wolf Fever outbreak to fuel anti-Zol sentiment and reignite war. Van also met individuals like Ohfan, who shared his immunity and powers, revealing deeper conspiracies about the disease's origins.

Van's arc culminates in rejecting cyclical violence. He prioritizes Yuna's safety above nationalist conflicts, embodying his "Deer King" allegory – a buck sacrificing itself to protect the herd without seeking glory. This philosophy drives his final actions to safeguard Yuna and the fragile peace between nations.
