TV-Series
Description
Honmaru Edojo is the central human protagonist of Magical Taruruuto-kun, a ten-year-old boy who attends Nanno Elementary School as a fifth grader. His birthday is February 3rd. He has blue hair and blue eyes, matching a visual design common to leading characters of his era.
At the start of the story, Honmaru is portrayed as a hapless and often unlucky child. He is one of the poorest-performing students in his class and has little aptitude for sports, which makes him a frequent target for bullying and ridicule from his peers. His behavior is also described as lewd or naughty, which further alienates him from the adults and children in his town. His life changes dramatically when, in a moment of extreme misery and frustration, he accidentally chants a spell that summons the young wizard Taruruto from a magical encyclopedia. Rather than sending the wizard back, Honmaru wishes for them to become best friends, forming the core relationship of the series.
Honmarus personality is a mixture of vulnerability and hidden strength. Initially depicted as a weak coward and a bully magnet, he possesses a latent inner resolve that emerges with encouragement. Over time, and through the often-unpredictable assistance of Tarurutos magic, he begins to overcome challenges and gradually matures. He takes on feats that impress those around him, particularly his love interest, as he discovers his own inner strength. Despite Taruruto frequently getting him into trouble with magic that backfires or wears off after ten minutes, Honmaru develops a strong protective instinct, acting as an older brother figure who tries to keep the young wizard out of harms way.
In the context of his school and social circle, Honmaru is defined by several key relationships. He is deeply in love with his classmate Iyona Kawai, a kind and talented girl from a wealthy family, and much of his early motivation involves trying to impress her. He also shares a contentious relationship with Rui Ijigawa, Iyonas best friend, who bullies him but also harbors secret feelings for him, leading to a dynamic of belligerent sexual tension. His primary bullies include the strong and obese Jabao Jaba and his clever sidekick Korekiyo Ryoguchiya. Later, he gains a major rival in the narcissistic transfer student Tsutomu Harako, who competes with him for Iyonas attention and challenges him to various contests. His father, Shogunnosuke, is a passionate picture book artist who, despite sharing his sons lewd tendencies, acts as a primary trainer who prepares Honmaru for physical competitions, often through intense martial arts drills.
Honmarus development is a central arc of the narrative. He transforms from a town outcast into a stronger, more capable individual, though he retains his core personality traits. One of his notable, albeit temporary, abilities comes from Tarurutos magic, which occasionally transforms him into a girl named Emoto Marue. In this form, he navigates situations from a different perspective, adding to the comedic and chaotic nature of his adventures.
