Description
Tohrim serves as chief advisor to the Aquafa king, wielding significant political influence. He plans with cold precision for his people's survival under Zol rule, maneuvering toward greater Aquafa autonomy by orchestrating the rise of Lord Yotalu, the Zol emperor's younger brother. He perceives Yotalu as more compliant and manipulable than his sibling.
Tohrim views Van, the "Deer King" and sole survivor of an Ossum hound attack, as a severe threat to Aquafa's fragile security. Van's survival of the deadly Black Wolf Fever (Mittsual disease) and apparent immunity risk Zol scientists, particularly Doctor Hossal, developing a cure. Such a cure would remove the only barrier preventing the Zol empire from launching full conquest and erasing Aquafa culture. Consequently, Tohrim initiates efforts to eliminate Van, dispatching operatives like the tracker and assassin Sae to intercept him.
His actions stem from pragmatic, ruthless dedication to preserving Aquafa sovereignty through political maneuvering over open rebellion. He opposes factions within the Aquafa advocating direct resistance like Van's past Lone Antlers rebellion, believing collaboration with sympathetic Zol figures like Yotalu offers a sustainable path. This stance creates tension with figures like Hossal, whose research on Van's immunity directly conflicts with Tohrim's goal of maintaining the disease as a deterrent.
Tohrim's motivations intertwine with generational trauma from the decades-long conflict with Zol. He seeks not just immediate political gains but a restoration of Aquafa dignity and cultural identity, which he believes Yotalu's influence can achieve. His orders concerning Van reflect a calculated decision to sacrifice an individual for the perceived greater good, underscoring his role as a complex antagonist driven by nationalism and survivalism rather than personal malice.
