Description
Gekkō Kamen, whose name translates to Moonlight Mask, is the titular hero of the anime Seigi wo Aisuru Mono Gekkō Kamen. His true identity is the central mystery of the series, known only to the audience. While the characters within the story are unaware, it is strongly suggested that he is detective Juurou Iwai, who seemingly vanishes from his everyday life just before the hero appears.

In his heroic guise, Gekkō Kamen presents a striking and unmistakable figure. He is always dressed in a full white costume consisting of white tights, a white scarf, and a cape that is white with a red interior. His ensemble is completed by yellow gloves and boots, dark tinted glasses, a cloth that covers the lower part of his face, and an Indian-style turban held in place by a moon-shaped ornament. This mysterious and somewhat flamboyant appearance sets him apart as a lone champion of justice.

Gekkō Kamen's personality is defined by his unwavering dedication to protecting the innocent and fighting evil. He is a solitary figure who appears whenever danger threatens, driven by a deep-seated love for justice, as reflected in the series title. Despite the serious nature of his mission, his methods are those of a highly skilled and resourceful operative. He is not just a brawler but an expert in unarmed combat and gymnastics, allowing him to engage in acrobatic fights against his foes. His role in the story is to be the primary force of good, directly opposing a series of major villains who threaten Japan and the world.

Throughout the anime, Gekkō Kamen faces several distinct antagonists. His first major enemy is Unghie di Satana, or Satan's Nails. He later confronts the ambitious scientist Doctor Dogma, who uses a blend of technology and magic to pursue world conquest, and eventually battles a demonic being known as Dragon Fangs. In these fights, he is often aided by a network of allies who are unaware of his secret identity. This group includes the comical assistant Gorohachi Fukuro, Inspector Matsuda of the police, and the children Shigeru and Kaboko, who live with his civilian persona.

In terms of development, Gekkō Kamen is a relatively static character, a fully formed hero whose journey is about vanquishing external threats rather than undergoing a significant personal transformation. His motivations remain constant, and the mystery surrounding his true identity is preserved throughout the series. To fulfill his role, he possesses several notable abilities and is equipped with a distinctive arsenal. He is an expert motorcycle rider, and his weapons include a whip, two six-shooters, throwing stars known as shuriken, and a moon-shaped boomerang. His exceptional marksmanship and mastery of these tools, combined with his physical prowess, make him a formidable and effective guardian.
