Description
In the anime film Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, the character Guile is depicted as a captain in the United States Air Force, a role that defines his outward identity and disciplined bearing. He is a man of imposing physical stature and stoic demeanor, driven by a powerful and deeply personal vendetta. As the narrative unfolds, he is assigned by military authorities to collaborate with the Interpol agent Chun-Li on a mission to dismantle the global criminal organization Shadaloo, led by the malevolent M. Bison.

Guile’s primary motivation throughout the story is a consuming desire for revenge against M. Bison. This quest for vengeance stems from the death of his close friend and fellow soldier, Charlie, who was murdered by the crime lord. This personal vendetta is so intense that it initially makes him a reluctant partner, as he is fixated on claiming Bison for himself. He is visibly displeased with the idea of working with a partner, insisting loudly that Bison's defeat is his own personal responsibility. This initial reluctance reveals a personality that is headstrong and focused, though it also masks a capacity for forming deep bonds. Contrary to his hardened exterior, he holds a soft spot for those he fights alongside, and a distinct friendship builds between him and Chun-Li over the course of their mission.

Within the story’s structure, Guile serves as a central figure representing military might and personal vengeance, a counterpoint to the wandering, martial arts-focused journey of the main character Ryu. His mission puts him on a collision course with Shadaloo, and he acts as a protector and ally to other characters. When Chun-Li is brutally attacked by the claw-wielding assassin Vega, Guile’s personal stakes are raised significantly, and his resolve to confront Bison intensifies. In the film’s climactic sequence, Guile tracks down Ryu but is followed by M. Bison and a brainwashed Ken Masters. He confronts Bison in a battle that demonstrates Bison’s overwhelming psychic power. Guile manages to damage Bison's cape with his signature Sonic Boom technique but is ultimately outmatched; Bison defeats him with ease, blasting him into a deep chasm. Although he survives the fall, he is left exhausted and bloodied, and Bison chooses to spare him as a final insult, leaving him broken but alive. He is later rescued from the ravine by the sumo wrestler E. Honda. In the film's final moments, a fully recovered Guile is seen becoming emotional, moved to tears when he receives the news that Chun-Li survived her near-fatal encounter with Vega.

Guile is depicted as a highly capable fighter, though the film makes clear that his abilities are no match for the full extent of Bison’s power. His most notable special technique, the Sonic Boom, is a projectile attack created by thrusting his arms forward, which he employs in his fight against Bison. He is also a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, utilizing a fighting style informed by his military training. Despite his martial prowess, his narrative arc in the film is one of failure, as he is unable to achieve his revenge and is instead humbled and defeated, forcing him to rely on the aid of others for survival.
