TV-Series
Description
In Transformers: Super God Masterforce, the character known as Optimus Prime is Ginrai, a human Autobot Godmaster and the central hero of the Autobot forces in the series. In the English-language dub of the anime, Ginrai is directly referred to as Optimus Prime, while in the original Japanese version he is always called Ginrai.
Ginrai was born in Nagano, Japan. Finding the atmosphere of his home country stifling, he left for the United States at the age of seventeen and became a long-haul truck driver for Union Transportation, drawn to the freedom and solitude of the open road. About two years later, while transporting an ill dolphin, his truck broke down and he rented a replacement cab from a small garage. Inside the cab he discovered a pair of Master-Braces and slipped them on, only to find he could not remove them. The Autobot Pretender Diver recognized the significance of the bracelets and insisted on investigating the garage. During the journey, the Decepticon Godmaster brothers Hydra and Buster attacked them, and when Ginrai accidentally touched the bracelets while escaping, he was infused with the Masterforce. Armor materialized around him, healing and merging him with the transtector, and he transformed into a Godmaster for the first time. The transtector had originally been stolen from the G Nebula by the evil energy being Devil Z, who scattered such bodies across Earth to eventually bond with humans. This particular transtector was intended for the legendary Autobot leader Optimus Prime, which is why Ginrai's robot form bears the appearance of the famed commander.
In personality, Ginrai is a free spirit and a lone wolf. He dislikes command structures, fixed routines, forced formality, and following orders, preferring to live on his own terms. He is easygoing and naturally popular among his fellow truckers, and despite his desire for isolation, he gets along with people easily. He was initially reluctant to join the Autobots, as the idea of being tied to a cause and a command structure ran against his entire way of life. However, he soon witnessed the true cruelty of the Decepticons when Hydra and Buster killed several of his fellow truckers while searching for him. This convinced him that the Decepticons could not be allowed to rule the world, and he agreed to help for the sake of the world, a cause he admitted he had a weakness for. As a fighter, Ginrai is incredibly brave and fearless, though he is also prone to rash action and charging into battle alone, placing himself at unnecessary risk.
His primary motivation is the protection of Earth and the people living on it. He becomes a hero out of responsibility rather than ambition, and his sense of duty grows as he faces increasingly powerful enemies.
Within the story, Ginrai becomes the Autobots' most important Godmaster warrior. He helps recruit the other Autobot Godmasters, including Lightfoot and Ranger, and is challenged by the wandering warrior Sixknight, who seeks to test him in battle before eventually becoming an ally. Ginrai's power develops significantly over the course of the series. He learns to combine with his trailer to become Super Ginrai, gaining greater strength and new attacks. Later, he combines with the autonomous support drone Godbomber to become God Ginrai, a form powerful enough to fight in space and confront the Decepticons' greatest champions. In the climactic conflict, he engages in a decisive duel with Black Zarak, the ultimate Decepticon weapon merged with Devil Z, atop the Matterhorn. After Devil Z is destroyed, the bond between the human Godmasters and their transtectors is broken, and Ginrai becomes a normal human once more. His transtector, now a living being in its own right and having taken the name God Ginrai, departs for space to continue the fight alongside the other Autobots.
Key relationships in his life include Diver, the Autobot Pretender who recognizes the Master-Braces and helps bring him into the conflict; his fellow Autobot Godmasters, who form his closest fighting team; and Sixknight, who begins as a rival and becomes a trusted comrade. He also fights alongside the young Autobot Headmaster Juniors, including Shuta, Cab, and Minerva. His primary adversaries are the Decepticon Godmaster brothers Hydra and Buster, the powerful Decepticon Overlord, the massive Black Zarak, and the overarching villain Devil Z.
In terms of abilities, Ginrai wields the Masterforce, which allows him to bond with a transtector and become a full-sized transforming warrior. His robot form resembles Optimus Prime and carries the strength expected of that design. His signature attack technique is Atomic Fire Guts, in which he condenses his Chōkon Power into his gun and releases it as a blast of roiling flame. As Super Ginrai, he gains the more powerful Special Fire Guts, and as God Ginrai he can unleash the ultimate God Fire Guts, which transforms his entire body into a blazing fireball for a single devastating strike.
