OVA
Description
In the 1990 anime OVA Licca-chan Fushigina Fushigina Yunia Monogatari, the character known as Dodo begins as an ordinary stuffed dodo bird. Licca Kayama receives the plush toy as a gift from her father when he returns from a trip to Paris, and her initial reaction to the present is one of disappointment. Despite this unassuming introduction, Dodo becomes a central figure when Licca accidentally falls into a piano and is transported to the magical world of Yunia. Upon entering this new realm, the stuffed dodo is transformed, gaining the ability to speak and move on its own.

Within the storybook setting of Yunia, Dodo assumes the important role of Licca's companion and guide. The narrative follows the pair as they navigate the fantastical landscape, with Dodo actively helping Licca search for a way to return to her own world. The character functions as a loyal and supportive partner to the young protagonist, a common archetype in adventure and isekai stories where a magical being aids a heroine displaced from her ordinary life. While Licca is portrayed as a girl with a strong yet gentle personality that is appropriate for her age, Dodo represents the magical catalyst that transforms a disappointing gift into a key element of an extraordinary journey. The relationship between Dodo and Licca is the core dynamic of the story, as they travel together through the creatively designed world of Yunia, encountering its unique landscapes and inhabitants. Dodo’s primary motivation is tied directly to Licca's goal: to assist her in navigating the mysteries of Yunia so she can find her way home. The character does not have a detailed backstory or a significant personal arc of development outside of this role; rather, Dodo's function is to enable Licca's adventure and provide companionship in a strange environment. Regarding notable abilities, Dodo's most significant trait is the power of speech and the ability to move, which are gained upon entering the magical world of Yunia, having previously been an inanimate object.
