Description
Fuubii, also known as Booby or Buubii, holds the designation of Perman No. 2. Unlike his human teammates, Fuubii is a male chimpanzee who was chosen by the extraterrestrial guardian Birdman to become a superhero. His selection was based on a strict principle of non-discrimination, granting equal status to animals alongside humans and challenging species-based prejudices. The character's background has undergone slight revisions across different adaptations. Initially, Fuubii was depicted as a resident of a zoo who had to sneak away at night to perform his superhero duties. This origin was later altered to show him living as a cherished pet with an elderly couple, a change that allowed him greater freedom and ease in carrying out his crime-fighting activities.

Despite being a chimpanzee, Fuubii exhibits high intelligence and often displays human-like mannerisms and behavior. He faces a significant communication barrier, however, as he is unable to speak human language. Instead, he communicates through a combination of gestures, sign language, creative manipulation of objects, and distinct vocalizations that his fellow Permans can understand. This ability to bridge the gap between species is a core part of his character. His personality is marked by loyalty, emotional perceptiveness, and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving. He often acts as a mediator within the team, intervening in emotional conflicts, such as when he prevented Mitsuo, Perman No. 1, from interfering with another member's departure, and he has played key roles in facilitating group reconciliations. Fuubii is motivated by a strong sense of justice and a commitment to his role as a hero, embodying impartial heroism and serving as a bridge between the human and animal worlds.

In the story, Fuubii's primary role is as an integral member of the Perman team. He contributes to operations that prevent crimes and disasters, often utilizing his unique perspective as a non-human hero to offer unconventional strategies and mediate in situations involving other animals. His secret identity is maintained using a copy-robot, a standard-issue device for all Permans, which is orange in color and creates a duplicate to take his place during missions. His key relationships are with his fellow team members. He shares an especially close partnership with Mitsuo Suwa, Perman No. 1, marked by mutual care, shared adventures, and occasional playful conflicts. He also maintains strong bonds with Sumire Hoshino, Perman No. 3 (also known as Perko or Pako), and Hōzen Ōyama, Perman No. 4 (also known as Peryan). Together with Peryan, he has helped reunite Perko with the team on multiple occasions.

Regarding character development, Fuubii's traits and role have remained largely consistent across all media appearances, including various anime series and crossover films. His evolution from a zoo-bound primate to a socially integrated hero mirrors the series' growing emphasis on unity and cooperative resilience, but his core identity as a compassionate problem-solver does not change significantly. A minor subplot in one episode involves him developing a fleeting romantic affection for a female chimpanzee, but this does not lead to any lasting development. Fuubii is notable for several abilities. Beyond his physical capabilities as a chimpanzee, his key strengths are his high intelligence, his empathy, and his ability to communicate with other animals. Stories that focus on him often partner him with various animals, using this skill to resolve conflicts or gather information. This ability, combined with his distinct animal perspective, makes him an invaluable asset to the Permans, frequently aiding his human teammates in navigating challenges they would otherwise be unable to solve.
