Description
Geronimo Junior, also designated Cyborg 005 and often called G-Junior, is a Native American man from the southwestern United States. Before becoming a cyborg, he faced severe racial discrimination that made stable employment nearly impossible. He once rejected a degrading offer to perform as a stereotypical "Native American chief" in a sideshow, reacting by punching the recruiter. This act of defiance drew the attention of Black Ghost agents, who approached him with false promises of meaningful work far from home. Desperate for a way to support his people, he accepted the offer, only to be abducted and forcibly transformed into a cyborg soldier as part of Black Ghost's 00 Cyborg program.
Physically, 005 is the largest and most muscular of the 00 Cyborgs, standing nearly seven feet tall. His appearance includes tan or dark skin, distinctive red tribal markings on his face, and black hair typically styled in a short mohawk or crew cut depending on the adaptation. He usually wears the team's red military-style uniform with a yellow scarf, though civilian clothing sometimes reflects his Native American heritage with fringed designs. His cybernetic enhancements focus on amplifying his natural physical attributes rather than granting entirely new abilities. He possesses immense superhuman strength, capable of lifting and hurling massive objects like boulders with ease, and his armored skin provides extreme durability against physical and energy attacks. This makes him the primary physical powerhouse and frontline defender of the team. In some continuities, his strength is quantified as being equivalent to millions of horsepower. During the storyline Conclusion: GODS WAR, his latent psychic potential is unlocked by Cyborg 001, further magnifying his physical power beyond its original mechanical limits.
Beyond his cybernetic abilities, Geronimo Junior possesses a deep spiritual connection to the natural world rooted in his cultural background. This manifests as an innate sixth sense that allows him to perceive disturbances in nature, sense hostile intentions, or detect supernatural presences, as seen when he senses the arrival of a demonic entity in Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman. This sensitivity also provides him with some resistance to mental influences such as illusions.
In personality, 005 is consistently portrayed as a gentle giant. Despite his towering, threatening stature and his role as the team's muscle, he is soft-spoken, reserved, and deeply introspective. He holds a profound reverence for all life and frequently meditates or spends time in natural environments. He speaks sparingly, letting his actions convey his intentions, and he rarely initiates conflict, preferring peace and harmony. However, when duty calls or the innocent are threatened, he becomes grimly determined and fights with formidable resolve. His motivation stems from a desire to protect both human communities and the ecological balance, opposing Black Ghost not only for personal reasons but also for the organization's disregard for life and nature.
After the initial defeat of Black Ghost, Geronimo Junior attempts to leave his cyborg identity behind, finding temporary peace working on a farm where he tends to crops and livestock. This simple life is interrupted when new global threats emerge, forcing him to rejoin his comrades. A key personal tragedy involves his childhood friend Cochise, who was forcibly transformed into a mind-controlled enemy cyborg by remnants of Black Ghost. In a poignant confrontation, 005 is forced to kill his old friend to free him from suffering. Within the team, he views his fellow cyborgs as a surrogate family, showing unwavering loyalty and protectiveness toward them. His role in the story is that of the ethical anchor and indestructible shield, embodying the tension between his desire for a tranquil life and the responsibility thrust upon him by his powers. His cybernetic body effectively halts aging, preserving him indefinitely at the age he was transformed, which is typically around 26 to 31 years old.
