Description
Francoise Arnoul, designated Cyborg 003, is a core member of the 00 Cyborg team. Originally from Paris, France, her life before her transformation was defined by a passionate dream of becoming a professional ballerina. A gifted dancer who had risen to the top of her school by the age of nineteen, her future was stolen when she was deceived and kidnapped by the agents of the criminal organization Black Ghost. She was taken to be surgically altered into a cyborg soldier, losing contact with her family, including her older brother, forever.

As a person, Francoise is characterized by her gentle, loving, and deeply compassionate nature. She possesses a strong pacifistic streak, always preferring to find a way to reason with an enemy or resolve a conflict without violence, though she will fight when all other options are exhausted. This empathy makes her the emotional heart of the group, acting as a big sister or a motherly figure to her teammates. She is often seen caring for the infant cyborg Ivan Whisky, Cyborg 001, and provides crucial moral support for the entire team. Despite her kind demeanor, she is also noted for her inner strength and resolve. While initially shy, she grows more confident and is known to be serious and proactive in her duties, particularly when coordinating her teammates during battle.

Francoise's primary role within the 00 Cyborgs is that of reconnaissance and tactical support. Her cybernetic enhancements turn her into a living radar, making her the team's sensory hub. She possesses superhuman hearing, enabling her to detect sounds from miles away, and her vision incorporates telescopic, night, and x-ray functions, allowing her to see through solid structures and locate hidden targets or weak points. In later adaptations, her abilities are expanded to include technopathy, allowing her to interface with computers and other technology to gather information. Her enhanced senses can be overwhelming, but she learns to control them, and in the storyline Conclusion: GOD'S WAR, her powers are further augmented by Ivan to include clairvoyance and precognition. Beyond her innate cyborg functions, Francoise is highly skilled, demonstrating proficiency in computer science, electronic engineering, and piloting, making her far more than just a passive observer. She also carries a Super Gun and is a capable markswoman.

The relationships Francoise forms with her fellow cyborgs are central to her character. Her most significant bond is with Joe Shimamura, Cyborg 009. Their connection is a deep, often romantic one, though both characters are frequently depicted as being too shy to fully express their feelings for each other. This on-again, off-again relationship is a recurring element across the franchise, with some versions making the romance more explicit than others. The dynamic of the team is completed by their mentor, Dr. Gilmore, who acts as a fatherly figure and guardian to the cyborgs after their escape from Black Ghost.

Throughout the story, Francoise undergoes notable development that goes beyond just mastering her powers. The trauma of being kidnapped and transformed against her will is a constant undercurrent, but she channels this pain into protecting others and preventing the same fate from befalling anyone else. Her journey is one of learning to balance her inherent pacifism with the grim necessity of fighting a global criminal syndicate. She evolves from a frightened victim into a composed and essential strategist, valued not only for her unique abilities but for her unwavering compassion, which serves as the team's moral compass and prevents them from losing their humanity in their war against Black Ghost.
