Description
Nobisuke Nobi is the father of Nobita and the husband of Tamako, and he works as a typical salaryman in Tokyo. He is a gentle, easygoing, and good-natured man who shares many of his son’s personality traits, including a laid-back attitude, clumsiness, and a kind heart. While Tamako tends to be stricter and more outspoken, Nobisuke is more patient and calm, often mediating conflicts in the household and offering Nobita forgiveness or understanding when his wife is upset. He genuinely cares for his family and tries to be a good role model, even though he is not perfect and has his own shortcomings.

In his youth, Nobisuke dreamed of becoming a painter and was a highly skilled artist, even winning awards and studying under a later-famous teacher. He once had the chance to marry into a wealthy family and study painting abroad, but he turned down the opportunity because he believed that one should carve out one’s own path in life. That decision led him to meet Tamako, and he eventually gave up his artistic ambitions to become a company employee, though he continues to paint occasionally. His youthful experiences give him a quiet wisdom, and he sometimes shares gentle advice with Nobita during casual moments.

Nobisuke is a creature of habit with many small flaws. He smokes heavily and has tried unsuccessfully to quit many times, drinks alcohol socially, has a poor memory, is not good at driving and has repeatedly failed his driver’s license test, and tends to be forgetful and prone to losing things. His hobbies include fishing, playing golf, watching baseball and golf on television (he supports the Yomiuri Giants), and playing pachinko. He is also something of a rain-bringer, often experiencing bad weather on his days off. Despite his mild nature, he can occasionally show frustration or disappointment, especially when Nobita is too reliant on others, and he has been known to scold his son over matters of independence or laziness.

In the family, Nobisuke plays the role of the gentle anchor. He accepts Doraemon wholeheartedly as a member of the household, treating the robot cat just like another son. His relationship with Tamako is one of mutual respect; her discipline is balanced by his patience, and together they create a supportive environment for Nobita. Nobisuke does not undergo major character development over the series, but his steady, reliable presence represents a settled and content middle-class father who, while not dramatically successful, is loving and devoted to his family. His primary ability is his painting skill, but in daily life he is notable for his calm demeanor and his willingness to support his family through quiet, everyday acts of care.
