Description
Doremi Harukaze begins as a perpetually unlucky third-grader, loudly declaring her misfortune whenever trouble arises. Her chance discovery of a witch running a magic shop accidentally curses the witch into a frog, forcing Doremi into becoming a witch apprentice to break the spell. This incident sparks her magical journey, soon shared by friends who join her as apprentices.

She sports bright red hair, usually styled in large twin buns held by pink scrunchies; one scrunchie features a yellow music note. Her early wardrobe includes a carnation pink T-shirt and purple shorts, later evolving to a purple vest and lilac shorts. She frequently bursts into comedic facial expressions and occasionally wears her hair down, often during key magical or emotional scenes.

Though impulsive, clumsy, and sometimes jealous of others' magical prowess, Doremi possesses deep kindness and empathy. She persistently uses her magic to help others, even at personal cost. Her fierce determination emerges when protecting loved ones, especially Hana-chan, a magical baby she helps raise like a daughter. Relationships drive her growth: childhood squabbles with her younger sister Pop mature into mutual respect and protectiveness, while friction with classmate Tetsuya Kotake evolves into a complex bond. Friendships with Hazuki Fujiwara and Aiko Senoo offer crucial support and balance.

Her magical progression involves mastering spells and passing tests across seasons. Early struggles with spellcasting, easily derailed by distractions like hunger, improve through experience. Key milestones include caring for Hana-chan in the second season, undertaking patissier exams in the third, and aiding the recovery of a cursed former Witch Queen in the fourth. A pivotal choice sees Doremi and her friends willingly give up their magic to remain human, valuing mortal bonds over eternal witchhood.

In the chibi-style spin-off "Owarai Gekijou," Doremi engages in exaggerated comedic scenarios separate from the main story. Her core traits of clumsiness, exuberance, and loyalty drive the humor, without introducing new background or development.

Doremi's journey depicts her maturation from a self-doubting child into a resilient adolescent who values friendship, responsibility, and self-acceptance more than magical solutions.
