Description
Yūta Hoshitani studies in Ayanagi Academy's Musical Department, inspired by a rainy autumn encounter during his second year of middle school. Witnessing an unidentified high schooler's captivating dance from Ayanagi motivated his enrollment despite lacking prior training. He later identified the dancer as Kao Council member Itsuki Otori.

Standing 170 cm tall, Hoshitani has light brown hair with a distinctive style—protruding back strands and center-parted bangs swept right—paired with bright green eyes. He strictly wears the school uniform and a unique training outfit: a black hoodie with white trims zipped halfway over a green v-neck shirt, cropped black pants, and dance shoes.

Persistently cheerful and optimistic, he refuses surrender to obstacles. First impressions highlight his bright, unclouded demeanor. Though energetic and sociable, moments of quiet reflection or self-doubt surface, swiftly overcome by determination. He proactively aids others and forges friendships, though occasional naivety draws critique.

Relationships anchor his growth. His first Ayanagi friend, Toru Nayuki, met during the entrance ceremony, became his roommate, and provides maternal care like meals and wake-ups. Nayuki sees him as Team Otori’s unifying inspiration. Initial friction with teammates Kakeru Tengenji (who dismissed him as talentless) and Kaito Tsukigami (who deemed him amateurish) evolved into mutual respect. Tengenji shifted his view after Hoshitani helped find his lost cat, while Tsukigami acknowledged him when Hoshitani defended Tsukigami’s family honor. His bond with Shu Kuga solidified through collaborative problem-solving, like improvising during a scriptless rehearsal. Despite idolizing Otori, he rejected Otori’s offer to abandon dreams in exchange for mentorship.

As Team Otori’s leader, Hoshitani confronted new challenges after achieving his goal to perform alongside Otori. During Ayanagi Festival preparations—their first independent production—the Kao Council initiated the Opening Ceremony reformation. Selected participants faced class-performance bans while being groomed for the next council, testing his leadership and team commitment. He also faced rival Team Hiragi’s leader Rui Tatsumi, who initially criticized his inexperience but later acknowledged Team Otori’s competitive potential after witnessing their tenacity.

Additional notes include living with his father, a childhood fear of cats from a "scary-looking" pet, and his name’s "star valley" meaning. Middle school reports labeled him a "class mood maker" who sometimes needed to "calm down." Nicknames include "Hoshigaya" and "Yu-chan." Manga adaptations delve into untold team histories and dynamics beyond the anime.
