Description
Arianne Trebias is a Saintess candidate within the temple of the Kingdom of Zied and the childhood friend of the protagonist Lua Restoatt. She initially appears as Lua’s sole protector, shielding her from the mockery of other temple residents and earning Lua’s deep trust and gratitude. This affectionate facade, however, masks a calculating and ambitious nature. Arianne is a master manipulator who presents a warm, saintly image to the world while secretly working to elevate her own standing.
Her pivotal betrayal occurs after Lua performs a miraculous, near-fatal healing of Knight Commander Garrett Vance, which leaves Lua unconscious for a month. Arianne seizes the opportunity, taking full credit for saving Garrett’s life. Through this deception, she secures a betrothal to the commander, the coveted title of Saintess, and a powerful position within the temple hierarchy. She discards her friendship with Lua without hesitation, viewing it only as a tool to be used and discarded once it has served its purpose. Her personality is duplicitous and ruthless; she is willing to exploit anyone and fabricate any story to maintain her false reputation and climb the social ladder.
Arianne’s motivations extend beyond personal gain. She becomes a co-conspirator with the High Priest in a wider scheme to unleash a manufactured, near-incurable plague upon the kingdom. The plan is for her to then publicly heal the infected, greatly increasing the temple’s prestige and influence, ultimately aiming for political control of the realm. Her ambition is boundless, and she treats both people and public trust as disposable assets in her pursuit of power.
Her role in the story is that of the primary antagonist and the catalyst for the protagonist’s transformation. Her betrayal shatters Lua’s innocence and sets her on a path of vengeance. Arianne’s lies also trap Garrett in a relationship built on a false memory, making him an unwitting pawn who remains loyal to her. Throughout the narrative, she works to eliminate any threat to her fabricated legend, scheming behind the scenes while maintaining a poised, benevolent public persona. Her key relationships are thus defined entirely by deception: to Lua, she is the traitorous former best friend; to Garrett, a fraudulent savior and fiancée; and to the High Priest, a willing partner in conspiracy.
Development-wise, Arianne transitions from a seemingly supportive companion into a cold, social-climbing villainess. As the story progresses, her position becomes increasingly unstable, as Lua, allied with Prince Sven, actively seeks to expose the truth behind her deceptions. While she is a Saintess candidate and possesses some form of healing ability, the narrative places far greater emphasis on her notable skills in manipulation, political cunning, and her capacity to craft and sustain a believable mask of sainthood that conceals a fundamentally self-serving and treacherous character.
