Description
Alus Reigin is the central protagonist of The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan. He is the number one Magicmaster in the world, holding the top rank among the elite group known as the Single Digits, which consists of the nine most powerful magic users in existence. Despite being only sixteen years old at the start of the story, he has spent approximately ten years serving in the military, fighting against creatures called Fiends that threaten humanity. His combat record is unmatched: he has defeated more Fiends and reclaimed more of humanity's lost territory than any other Magicmaster alive.

Alus Reigin's background is defined by his extraordinary talent and his unusual upbringing. Due to his immense magical potential, he was placed into specialized magical training at the age of six, skipping general education entirely. This early immersion in military life and the battlefield shaped his personality in distinct ways. He grew up in an environment that was detached from ordinary society, which left him somewhat lacking in common sense and indifferent to the broader well-being of humanity. His perspective is pragmatic and mission-oriented, a result of having been raised as a weapon against the Fiend threat rather than as an ordinary child.

His primary motivation at the beginning of the story is a desire for rest. After a decade of relentless combat, he requests retirement from military service at the age of sixteen, hoping to live a quiet and peaceful life. However, his status as the greatest Magicmaster in the nation makes this request impossible to fulfill in a straightforward manner. A compromise is reached: he is enrolled as a student at the Second Magical Institute, a special school for training Magicmasters, where he must hide his true identity and abilities. He is given the mission of training his successors, a pair of talented young Magicmaster girls, while also continuing to secretly combat Fiends when necessary. His personal journey revolves around the tension between his longing for a calm, retired existence and the heavy responsibilities that his power and reputation place upon him.

In the story, Alus Reigin serves as both the world's most powerful defender and a hidden figure working from the shadows. His role is multifaceted: he is a student attending classes, a mentor training his successors, a covert operative eliminating Fiend threats, and a researcher pursuing his own magical studies. He is not allowed to simply disappear from public life, so he navigates these parallel existences while keeping his true status concealed from most of those around him.

His key relationships include Loki Leevahl, who becomes his partner and is aware of his true identity, assisting him in his missions. He is also tasked with training Tesfia Fable and Alice Tilake, two young Magicmaster girls who are his designated successors. Through his interactions with them, he gradually moves beyond his isolated and indifferent outlook. Another important figure is Felinella Socalent, the daughter of his former superior, who also becomes involved in his circle. His relationships with these characters are central to his development, as they pull him away from his solitary warrior mindset and force him to engage with others on a more personal level.

Over the course of the narrative, Alus Reigin undergoes noticeable development. His initial detachment and single-minded focus on retirement begin to shift as he forms bonds with his students and allies. He slowly opens up about his hidden past, including his time in the Special Fiend Attack Unit and the traumatic events that led to its dissolution. He confronts new enemies, including human antagonists and increasingly powerful Fiends, and must balance his desire for peace with the growing threats that only he can handle. His character development is marked by a gradual acceptance of his role as a protector and a growing willingness to rely on others.

Alus Reigin possesses abilities that place him far above all other Magicmasters. He is ranked as the number one Magicmaster out of over one hundred thousand registered magic users. His magical power is immense and versatile, allowing him to defeat Fiends that would overwhelm entire squads of ordinary Magicmasters. He also possesses a unique and extremely powerful special ability that is described as being akin in nature to the Fiends themselves, setting him apart from all other human magic users. His combat experience, honed over a decade of front-line service, makes him a highly capable strategist and fighter. He is able to execute complex magic with precision and overwhelming force, and he continues to develop new techniques and conduct magical research throughout the story.
