Description
Hawkmon is a Rookie-level bird Digimon who appears in the Digimon Adventure 02 anime as one of the partner Digimon of the new generation of Chosen Children. His name is derived from the English word for hawk, and he belongs to an ancient lineage of Digimon that flourished long ago, which gives him the innate ability to use the power of the DigiMentals to perform Armor Evolution. In appearance, he is a small bird of prey with predominantly red feathers, a crested head, large yellow feet, and wings that each end in three claw-like digits, allowing him to grip objects almost as if the wings were hands.
His background in the story begins when his partner, Miyako Inoue, frees him from a sealed egg associated with the DigiMental of Love. From that point he becomes her constant companion. Their partnership is notable within the franchise as the first pairing in which the human and the Digimon partner are of different sexes. Early encounters also establish his protective nature, as he is willing to put himself in harm's way to shield Miyako from attacks.

Later in the series, once normal evolution becomes possible again, he is able to evolve into his Champion-level form Aquilamon. He also takes part in Jogress Evolution, merging with Tailmon to become Silphymon, a combined form that blends Hawkmon's avian nature with Tailmon's holy attributes.
