Description
Suishō Hakamada pilots the mecha Drosela Nocturne in the Granbelm magic tournament. Initially posing as a carefree mage from a minor magical family who serves Anna Fugo, she abandons Anna upon recognizing Shingetsu Ernesta Fukami's superior magical potential. Her true nature and motivations unfold gradually during the tournament.
Suishō is an artificial being crafted by Magiaconatus roughly one thousand years prior to Granbelm. Her core mission prevents humans from obtaining magic by ensuring no human wins the tournament, thereby proving humanity's unworthiness. This purpose fuels profound envy toward humans and resentment toward Magiaconatus for favoring them.
Outwardly energetic and playful, she adopts a high-pitched voice and joking demeanor as a deliberate facade masking sadistic and manipulative tendencies. She enjoys toying with others' emotions, particularly psychologically manipulating Kuon Tsuchimikado and Mangetsu Kohinata. She is implicated in cursing Kuon's sister Shisui into a coma, though Shisui intentionally allowed part of her soul to be consumed by Suishō to grant Kuon an advantage.
During the tournament, Suishō fatally wounds Kuon after revealing the truth about Shisui's soul, destroying both Kuon's body and her mecha Setsgetsu Baika. Her non-human physiology is exposed when she shows no pain after being stabbed, subsequently unleashing immense power. She later eliminates Mangetsu, revealing Mangetsu's nature as a magical construct created to support Shingetsu.
In the final confrontation with Shingetsu, Suishō discloses her role not as a standard participant but as Granbelm's "host," tasked for centuries with testing potential Princeps Mages. She admits secretly hoping for an opponent capable of defeating her. During the battle, she warns Shingetsu that erasing all magic would result in eternal isolation, loss of mortality, and erasure from collective memory. After Shingetsu reaffirms her resolve, Suishō disappears following a final exchange questioning Shingetsu's lack of regret.
Suishō possesses light blue hair and green eyes. As a non-human entity, she does not experience physical pain like biological beings.
