Description
Gihren Zabi, eldest son of Degwin Sodo Zabi, serves as the de facto leader of the Principality of Zeon throughout the events leading to and including the One Year War. Demonstrating political ambition from youth through activities supporting Zeon's independence, he acts as an aide to his father by 0068 and directs the Zeon Party's political department. He systematically maneuvers to position the Zabi family at the center of power, initially using Zeon Zum Deikun as a figurehead. Following Deikun's death, Gihren purges Deikun loyalists from the Side 3 government, facilitating the transition from the Republic of Zeon to the Principality. Rising to Prime Minister and Supreme Commander of the military, he effectively reduces Degwin to a figurehead.

Possessing a high IQ of 240, Gihren excels in political strategy and oratory. He radically reinterprets Deikun's Zeonism philosophy around 0071, promoting the "dominant theory of human survival" that positions Spacenoids as humanity's chosen people destined to rule the Earth Sphere. His speeches frame the Spacenoid cause as a militarist revolution necessary to break historical stagnation. This ideology emphasizes Spacenoid superiority and Zeon's moral righteousness against Earth Federation corruption, downplaying Deikun's Newtype theories for political expediency.

As architect of Zeon's war efforts, Gihren masterminds Operation British in 0079, authorizing the extermination of Side 2's population with G3 nerve gas and the colony drop targeting Jaburo (which impacts Sydney). He later orders an attack on Side 5 to seize another colony for a second drop attempt, triggering the Battle of Loum. These actions cause catastrophic civilian casualties and ecological damage, violating the subsequent Antarctic Treaty he negotiates with the Earth Federation.

Gihren views total war as necessary to limit Earth's population to 50 million for environmental regeneration and Spacenoid dominance. He clashes with Degwin's pursuit of negotiated peace, embracing Degwin's comparison of him to historical dictators like Adolf Hitler. Following his brother Garma's death, Gihren delivers a public eulogy reframing the loss as a rallying point, coining the "Sieg Zeon" salute to galvanize support. His reliance on overwhelming force includes developing superweapons like the Solar Ray cannon to circumvent treaty restrictions.

In the war's final days, learning of Degwin's independent peace talks with Federation General Revil, Gihren intercepts their meeting near the Solar Ray and orders its firing, killing both. This patricide is discovered by his sister Kycilia, who executes him during the Battle of A Baoa Qu. His death triggers disarray among Zeon loyalists, contributing to Zeon's defeat.

Gihren's legacy persists through Zeon remnants like the Delaz Fleet, which executes Operation Stardust in 0083 using a colony drop. His ideology of Spacenoid supremacy and ruthless tactics influence later factions, including the Earth Federation's Titans under leaders like Jamitov Hymen.
