Description
Tem Ray, father of Amuro Ray, is a skilled engineer leading mobile weapon development for the Earth Federation Forces. As a protégé of Minovsky particle discoverer Torenov Y. Minovsky, he advanced foundational military technologies. Admiral Gopp later appointed him chief engineer for a secretive project requiring lunar travel to extract his mentor from Zeon territory. There, Tem observed history’s first mobile suit battle, a pivotal experience shaping his RX-78 Gundam contributions.

Frequent uprootings between space colonies for work separated Tem from his son. By UC 0077, their Side 7 residency saw Tem’s prolonged absences leave Amuro unsupervised amid rising tensions. This isolation culminated in Amuro’s accidental activation of the RX-78-2 Gundam during the One Year War’s outbreak. Earlier, a malfunction involving Amuro’s Haro robot at a spaceport set the stage for his encounter with Sayla Mass, though Tem’s connection to the incident remains unrecorded.

Tem’s engineering acumen and Minovsky research expertise cemented his role in countering Zeon’s mobile suit dominance. His early work established critical frameworks for the RX-78’s creation, though later contributions beyond the project’s inception phase are not fully detailed in archival sources.
