Description
Caroline is one of the twin wardens serving under Igor within the Velvet Room, a mysterious space between mind and matter. She and her sister, Justine, are introduced as the attendants who oversee the protagonist during his period of rehabilitation. Unbeknownst to them at the start, they are not two separate individuals but rather two fragmented halves of a single entity named Lavenza, whose existence was split by the deity Yaldabaoth before the events of the story.

Caroline presents a striking appearance that complements her role as a jailer. She has platinum blonde hair styled into two distinct buns and sharp yellow eyes. A black eyepatch marked with the letter V covers one eye, and she wears a blue prison guard uniform topped with a hat bearing the letters X-M-R-N. These letters, when combined with the O-Y-O-O on Justine's hat, spell out the word OXYMORON. Caroline is almost always seen wielding an electric shock baton, which she uses to emphasize her authority and intimidate the protagonist.

Her personality is immediately recognizable as brash, ill-tempered, and impatient. Unlike the calm and level-headed Justine, Caroline is openly hostile and demeaning, often speaking to her sister in a condescending manner. She consistently addresses the protagonist as inmate and shows him little regard, even going so far as to physically kick him into the Velvet Room at the start of each visit. Despite her aggressive exterior, her behavior aligns with a classic tsundere archetype, where harshness masks a deeper, more genuine respect. This is supported by Justine’s revelation that Caroline was once mortified by the sight of Persona fusion and secretly practiced intimidating poses in private, only to be too embarrassed to perform them for the protagonist.

Caroline and Justine share a critical functional role within the Velvet Room, responsible for the management and strengthening of the protagonist's Personas. Caroline is specifically in charge of the more forceful aspects of this process, such as the execution of Persona fusions using a guillotine and overseeing special training like solitary confinement. In the event of a fusion accident, she is known to resort to using a chainsaw to complete the process.

The relationship between the two sisters is defined by Caroline’s dominant and often demeaning attitude toward Justine, who remains unfailingly polite and composed. Their dynamic is essential to the Velvet Room's function, with the two halves acting as a check on each other. Over the course of the story, as the protagonist builds his Confidant bond with them, Caroline’s initial hostility softens. She develops a genuine respect for him, though she rarely abandons her gruff demeanor entirely. For Caroline, this growing respect is a part of her hidden motivation to fulfill her duty as a guide, a purpose she does not fully understand due to her fragmented state.

Caroline’s most significant development occurs during the climax against Yaldabaoth. Initially obeying orders to subdue the protagonist, both she and Justine find themselves unable to continue fighting as their conscience rebels against the command. This moment of hesitation allows the consciousness of their true form, Lavenza, to emerge as a butterfly and reveal the deception of the false Igor. Taking decisive action, Caroline instructs the protagonist to fuse her and Justine together, willingly sacrificing their individual existences to restore their original, whole self, Lavenza.

In terms of notable abilities, Caroline is primarily a guide and facilitator rather than a combatant for most of the narrative. Her primary power lies in her authority over the Velvet Room’s functions, allowing her to fuse Personas, strengthen them via a gallows, and transform them into items using an electric chair. When forced to fight, she effectively uses her electric shock baton. In her complete form as Lavenza, she wields immense power over Persona fusions and demonstrates formidable combat abilities, but as Caroline, her strength is intrinsically tied to her role as the warden of the prison.
