TV Special
Description
Justine serves as an attendant to Igor within the Velvet Room alongside her twin sister, Caroline. Both appear as young girls with platinum blonde hair, yellow eyes, and distinctive black eye patches marked with a "V". They wear matching blue prison guard uniforms. Justine is distinguished by a long braid and a hat bearing the letters "O-Y-O-O"; combined with Caroline's "X-M-R-N" hat, they spell "OXYMORON". She typically carries a clipboard and exhibits a calm, level-headed demeanor, contrasting sharply with Caroline's aggressive impatience. Justine addresses the protagonist as "inmate" with a condescending tone, calmly escorting them into the Velvet Room compared to Caroline's physical coercion.
Their existence stems from Lavenza, Igor's true assistant. The malevolent entity Yaldabaoth, disguised as Igor, split Lavenza's soul into Caroline and Justine, erasing their memories and manipulating them to view the protagonist as a dangerous prisoner requiring control. A fragment of Lavenza's consciousness, appearing as a butterfly, guided the protagonist to uncover this deception. Within the Velvet Room, the twins perform Persona fusions using guillotines and convert Personas into items via an electric chair. They contact the protagonist directly when a Persona completes solitary confinement.
During the climax in "Stars and Ours", both twins appear outside the Velvet Room entrance. Justine continues her role by escorting the protagonist inside, while Caroline fully restores the party's health and skill resources when approached. After an initial failed battle against the Holy Grail (Yaldabaoth), the false Igor commands them to subdue the protagonist. They resist after a few combat turns, allowing Lavenza's butterfly form to manifest, revealing Yaldabaoth's deception and their true purpose as guides for humanity. Recognizing their divided state, they instruct the protagonist to fuse them back into Lavenza, their complete form.
Beyond the main series, Justine appears with Caroline in spin-off media. In *Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight*, they attend the Velvet Room and participate as playable characters. *Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth* features them as supporting characters and downloadable navigators. Later games like *Persona 5 Strikers* and *Persona 5 Tactica* depict only Lavenza, their unified form, serving as the Velvet Room assistant; in *Tactica*, Lavenza adopts a blacksmith-inspired outfit matching the Velvet Room's foundry appearance. The twins' names reference characters from Mary Shelley's *Frankenstein*: Caroline Frankenstein and Justine Moritz.
