Description
Katsumi Morikawa burst onto the scene at Card Capital shop, declaring himself the strongest fighter. His initial bullying targeted Aichi Sendou, culminating in stealing Blaster Blade to wager against Toshiki Kai. This ill-conceived attempt failed, resulting in Morikawa's defeat. A subsequent loss to Aichi and the boy's forgiveness sparked a genuine change in Morikawa, transforming him from bully to friend.

Morikawa developed an overwhelming obsession with powerful Grade 3 units, constructing decks overloaded with them across multiple clans. This flawed strategy consistently caused gameplay disasters: failed rides, inability to boost units, and trigger activation problems. His persistent losing streak earned him the nicknames "Lose-umi" and "Makemi" (from "make" meaning defeat). He habitually blamed misfortune rather than acknowledging his self-sabotaging deck construction. However, demonstrations using properly balanced trial decks, like a Nova Grappler build provided by Shin, revealed unexpected strategic depth and resulted in multiple victories. Similar competence emerged when he temporarily wielded Toshiki Kai's Kagero deck, effectively pressuring Aichi before ultimately losing.

His personality blends boastfulness about physical strength and cardfighting prowess with superstition, manifesting in regular consultations of astrology books. He harbors an intense fixation on Team Ultra-Rare member Kourin, prompting behavior like attending tournaments primarily to see her.

After graduating from Hitsue Junior High, Morikawa enrolled at Hitsue High School alongside friend Yuta Izaki. Jealousy flared when Kourin joined Aichi's class at Miyaji Academy. Morikawa attempted entry into Miyaji by declaring himself Aichi's "father," a claim Kamui Katsuragi forcefully rejected, leading to conflict. During a team match against Miyaji Academy, Morikawa's teammates substituted his deck with Kai's Kagero build without consent. Despite wielding it effectively and pressuring Aichi, he lost once more.

In the GIRS Crisis arc, Morikawa retained his Grade 3 focus but adopted a single-clan Spike Brothers deck. He challenged Chrono Shindou, aggressively leveraging Grade 3 units for temporary advantage. His defeat came when his hand locked into only Grade 3 units, preventing guarding. Chrono later questioned Morikawa's preference for Grade 3s, receiving the straightforward answer that he simply "liked them," which Chrono accepted.

Manga portrayals differ significantly. While initially stealing Blaster Blade similarly, Morikawa belonged to Hitsue Junior High's Vanguard Research Club. Crucially, his manga deck utilized a functional Spike Brothers/Tachikaze hybrid build instead of an impractical Grade 3 collection. His role diminished substantially after the introductory club chapter.

Universal characteristics include his name's ironic meaning ("katsu" translates to victory), his avatar Juggernaut Maximum, and occasional demonstrations of underlying skill obscured by his self-sabotaging deck choices.
