Description
Hirofumi Asada begins his first year at Seidou High School appearing quiet and introverted, actively avoiding attention. His tall, lanky build and plain look—round glasses and short brown hair—contribute to an impression others call "wimpy," reinforced by his tendency to slouch and display timid body language. Assigned to share a dorm room with upperclassmen Yoichi Kuramochi and Eijun Sawamura, he becomes the target of their welcome prank, leading to apprehension about high school life.

His baseball background includes three years as a relief pitcher at Mutou Middle School playing rubber baseball (nanshiki). This experience shapes his pitching style, notably his habit of using the set position even with no runners on base—a technique minimizing steal risks due to his height making movements noticeable. His primary pitch is a slow, looping 12-6 curveball with a sharp drop. Its effectiveness stems from his height and left-handed delivery, creating an illusion for left-handed batters that the ball will hit them before plunging into the strike zone.

Early on, Asada struggles with Seidou's demanding environment, particularly the mandatory meal portions. He teams with fellow freshman Koushuu Okumura as the "slowpoke squad" during meals. He initially declines Sawamura's invitations for extra pitching practice, though he later regrets this reflexive hesitation. His relationship with Sawamura evolves significantly after witnessing Sawamura's self-critical analysis post-game; Asada proactively invites him to play catch to observe his pitches up close. Sparked by curiosity about Sawamura's diverse grips and techniques, he shifts from passive observation to active engagement.

In his development, Asada adopts Sawamura and Okumura’s tire-pulling training regimen to catch up to upperclassmen. Despite this determination, he faces setbacks like failing to secure a second-string position during team selections. Kuramochi observes his disappointment and offers encouragement. Teammate Toujou Hideaki and coaches note Asada’s physical immaturity and underdeveloped pitching repertoire limit his ability to carry the team compared to peers like Yui Kaoru or Kuki Youhei. His dorm dynamics gradually improve; after initially avoiding roommates due to discomfort, he eventually participates in activities like playing catch, though interactions remain tentative.

Personality-wise, Asada exhibits quiet resilience beneath his reserved exterior. He is a morning person and light sleeper, occasionally reacting to Sawamura’s sleep-talking. While easily flustered by practical jokes, he demonstrates assertiveness in baseball contexts, such as interrupting Sawamura and Okumura’s arguments to redirect focus to practice. His journey reflects perseverance in adapting to Seidou’s competitive culture while refining his unique pitching attributes.
