Description
Takuma Seto is a first-year student at Seidou High School, serving primarily as a second baseman, a left-handed batter and right-handed thrower. He hails from Kanagawa Prefecture and attended Daikyou Senior Middle School alongside his childhood friend Koushuu Okumura. Their baseball coach initially treated the team well but later abandoned them for a rival school, convinced Daikyou lacked potential. This betrayal deeply affected the team, leading Okumura to rally Seto and their teammates to defeat their former coach in a retaliatory game.
After this incident, Seto and Okumura attended Seidou's Fall Tournament finals against Yakushi High. Observing Seidou's performance, particularly the pitchers, influenced their decision to enroll. Seto followed Okumura to Seidou, driven by loyalty and a desire to support his friend.
Seto exhibits an optimistic and ever-smiling demeanor, coupled with strong confidence in his running speed. He frequently references his "quick legs" as a key asset. His baseball abilities include a high baseball IQ, adept base-stealing techniques, and exceptional speed rated A+ by coaches. Veteran Yoichi Kuramochi noted Seto's base-stealing skills indicated extensive training.
His relationship with Okumura remains central. Seto openly cares for Okumura, encouraging him not to push excessively and offering emotional support. Okumura occasionally appears uncomfortable with this solicitude, prompting Seto to give him space. Seto also interacts with other teammates, gravitating toward fellow infielders like Haruichi Kominato as a potential keystone partner.
Initially part of the second string, Seto advanced to the first string alongside Okumura after demonstrating his skills during practice games and intra-squad competitions. In these matches, he occasionally partnered with Takatsu as a keystone combo, though their coordination faced challenges under pressure. Seto rooms with Shinji Kanemaru and Nakata Ataru at Seidou's dormitory.
Seto exhibits perceptive insights about teammates, noting how pitchers like Eijun Sawamura can "change the mood of the whole stadium." He bluntly critiques behavior he deems unserious, once commenting that "everyone here is such a sore loser." His nickname for power hitters Masashi Yuuki and Kaoru Yui—"iron stomach monsters"—reflects his observational humor.
Outside baseball, Seto is acknowledged as a "genius gamer" by Okumura. His name etymology—"Port to the Rapids" (Seto) and "Supporting Horse" (Takuma)—symbolically aligns with his role as a swift and supportive teammate.
