Description
Princess Kurama is a member of the Karasutengu, an extraterrestrial race modeled after mythological Japanese crow goblins. As princess of her species, she bears the critical duty of preserving a royal bloodline nearing extinction due to a severe shortage of suitable male partners. Confronting this crisis, she entered suspended animation under an ancient Karasutengu law mandating she must mate with whichever man awakens her via a kiss.

Her first awakening occurs when Ataru Moroboshi, urged by one of Kurama's inebriated underlings, kisses her. Appalled at being irrevocably bound to someone she deems irredeemably lecherous, Kurama initially strives to reform Ataru's character. These attempts involve experimental technology designed to temper his behavior with feminine essence, inadvertently inducing gender confusion without changing his core nature. After repeated failures to alter him, she abandons reforming him and seeks to evade the mating obligation.

Pursuing an alternative, Kurama undergoes cryogenic sleep once more under a negotiated exception permitting one retry. Despite plans for Shutaro Mendo to awaken her, Ataru intervenes and kisses her first—reaffirming her unwanted bond to him per Karasutengu law. Investigating the tradition's origins, Kurama discovers its arbitrary basis: an elder centuries prior established it after personally encountering his wife through a wake-up kiss. Deeming the law nonsensical, she rejects it entirely and declares her intent to choose a mate freely.

This decision launches her pursuit of several candidates. She briefly targets Mendo for his appearance but discards him after witnessing his debilitating claustrophobia. She then pursues Rei, an Oni alien, but abandons him upon discovering his monstrous true form. Later, she develops interest in Ryunosuke Fujinami, believing "him" an ideal handsome man. When her underlings learn Ryunosuke is biologically female, they attempt forced gender alteration using ray guns—a plan Kurama halts upon uncovering the truth. Following these disappointments, she resolves to seek a "perfect" partner across the universe, prioritizing physical attractiveness while remaining receptive to handsome Earthlings.

Kurama exhibits crow-like features: pointed ears, greenish-black wings, and short black hair. Her typical attire consists of black leather, including a bustier, spiked collar, long boots, and a distinctive single long glove. She wields oversized leaves capable of generating powerful wind gusts and storms, reflecting the mythological tengu link to wind control.

Her personality blends determination with superficiality; she is fiercely committed to securing her bloodline's future yet judges potential mates almost solely on appearance. Repeated failures fuel bitterness, though she retains pragmatic persistence. She harbors a general dislike for Oni aliens, viewing them as rivals or interlopers. Despite friction, she sporadically collaborates with Lum and others during crises, such as aiding efforts to rescue Ataru from forced marriage plots. Her interactions frequently involve comedic antagonism, particularly toward those obstructing her romantic pursuits or invoking the defunct mating law.
