Description
Maina serves as a Houtua shrine maiden alongside her identical twin Miana. Descended from humans who remained on Earth under Godzilla's dominance, the Houtua revere Mothra's dormant egg as their deity, and the twins act as conduits for communication with it. Physically, Maina possesses feather-like white hair, green eyes, and distinctive white tribal markings covering her body; these markings secrete scales with healing properties. She typically wears light fabric garments and a mask, though she frequently removes it during close interactions.

Her personality contrasts sharply with Miana's. Maina exhibits deep wariness toward outsiders and initial aggression toward human survivors, driven by fierce protectiveness of her tribe and traditions. This caution leads her to command Houtua warriors in ambushing United Earth forces, an action halted only by Miana's intervention. She harbors profound distrust of advanced technology, notably denouncing Mechagodzilla City's nanometal as "sinister" and "poison," and warning against its use. Despite this guarded nature, she gradually develops concern for Haruo Sakaki after rescuing him from Godzilla Earth's attack and nursing his injuries within her hut.

Throughout the conflict, Maina provides telepathic assistance to Haruo, notably during his battle against Godzilla in Mechagodzilla City where she and Miana warn him of incoming atomic breath. In *The Planet Eater*, she agrees to hide Haruo from political and religious manipulation, guarding him in a remote camp. Witnessing his despair, she explains the Houtua philosophy: "winning" signifies survival and procreation, while "losing" means death or disappearance. After Haruo declines Miana's proposal, Maina offers to "connect life" (procreate) with him, revealing she was the twin who originally saved him. This initiates a romantic relationship.

When Metphies captures Miana, Maina senses it telepathically and joins Haruo to confront the Exif bishop. Later, as Ghidorah attacks Godzilla, she guides Martin Lazzari to Mothra's egg, using their connection to psychically aid Haruo during Metphies' mental assault, helping him reject Ghidorah's influence. Following Ghidorah's defeat, Maina marries Haruo and becomes pregnant. After Haruo sacrifices himself to destroy the last nanometal remnants, she raises their child and integrates surviving humans into Houtua society. Years later, elderly and bearing the marks of age, she participates in rituals deifying Haruo as the "Lord of Wrath," a figure to whom the Houtua offer their fears.
