Description
Naruha Sakuragi, known as Naru, operates within Academy City's dark side as part of the mercenary group Scavenger, taking orders from Board of Directors member Nakimoto Rizou. Her past before joining Scavenger is mostly unknown, though hints suggest a traumatic event involving educators fuels her intense hatred for teachers, whom she sees as the root of evil in Academy City. This hatred drives her participation in Scavenger's violent missions against educators and their associates.
Naruha wields a Level 3 esper ability called "Perfect Paper," a specialized psychokinesis granting precise control over paper substances. She conceals vast amounts of paper within her clothing and umbrella, manipulating it with properties ranging from cloth-like softness to hardened alloy strength. Despite her official Level 3 rating, her combat effectiveness—bolstered by tactical instincts—is frequently observed to match Level 4 espers. Her techniques involve creating explosive paper airplanes, bullet-blocking shields, piercing paper darts, spiked gloves for close combat, and decoy paper doubles capable of binding foes. Her signature "Bunny Suit" is form-fitting armor exposing her torso and head, significantly enhancing her physical strength and speed. This suit can dynamically reshape into weapons like spears, hammers, or swords, or deploy boosters for propulsion. Against strong defenses, she constructs larger devices like the "Excavator Version," a powered digging apparatus able to carve through earth and reinforced barriers. Her ultimate defense is the "Iron Maiden," a containment unit resilient enough to withstand high-temperature assaults such as liquid thermite.
Her personality blends childish exuberance with ruthless mission efficiency. She exhibits cheerful irreverence outside combat, teasing teammates about bathroom habits or suggesting whimsical ideas like recruiting a fifth member to complete a "sentai team" color scheme. During operations, however, she displays extreme sadism and remorselessness, openly taunting targets and employing brutal force against enemies and bystanders alike, including shattering immobilized opponents and targeting Anti-Skill officers without hesitation. She demonstrates unwavering loyalty to her Scavenger teammates, reacting with violent rage if they are harmed—assaulting Accelerator after he incapacitates Seike or attempting to obliterate a cyborg doppelganger for injuring Leader. Her lack of modesty is evident in her revealing combat armor and casual approach to nudity, not characterized as exhibitionism. Off-duty, she enjoys visiting art museums, preferring three-dimensional exhibits. Initially skeptical of the occult, she adopts a belief in horoscopes after receiving a negative prediction coinciding with Scavenger's defeat by Accelerator.
Her documented appearances start in the "Necromancer Arc" of *Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator*, where Scavenger attacks the DA organization. Naruha engages Hitokawa Hasami and Yomikawa Aiho in extended combat, overpowering Yomikawa with her Bunny Suit before Accelerator intervenes and dismantles her excavator. She later joins Scavenger's combined assault on Accelerator, crafting the Iron Maiden to contain him—a tactic that fails catastrophically. In the "Dream Ranker Arc" of *Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T*, she helps capture a cybernetic doppelganger of Kuriba Ryouko. When the doppelganger injures Leader and threatens Yakumaru, Naruha retaliates fiercely but loses control of her paper armor to the doppelganger's absorption ability. She subsequently collaborates with Yakumaru to escape, showing improved teamwork. After the mission, she suggests team improvements and playfully tries to force Seike into a color-coded paper uniform.
Her core motivations, abilities, and loyalty to Scavenger remain consistent throughout her documented appearances. Observed changes include adopting superstition following defeats and demonstrating marginally increased coordination with teammates during later missions.
