TV-Series
Description
Kamijou Touma wields Imagine Breaker in his right hand, negating all supernatural powers like magic, esper abilities, and divine blessings. This power also cancels his own good luck, resulting in constant misfortune he often laments with his catchphrase, "Such misfortune!" He accepts this unlucky nature as it helps him notice and aid suffering individuals. Imagine Breaker's presence caused severe superstition during his childhood outside Academy City, where people blamed him for misfortunes, labeling him a "god of pestilence." A violent incident led his father to send him to Academy City, a relocation later revealed as part of Aleister Crowley's deliberate plans.

Classified as a Level 0 esper within Academy City, Touma discovered Imagine Breaker could nullify psychic powers. This ability drew attention from the city's leadership, though its significance remained largely hidden publicly. His classmates value him for absorbing their collective bad luck but resent his apparent romantic success with numerous girls, a phenomenon his friend Tsuchimikado Motoharu termed "Kami-yan disease." This pattern of attracting female attention persists, with characters like Index, Misaka Mikoto, and Shokuhou Misaki developing affections. His relationship with Misaki involved protecting her from Deadlock, resulting in memory loss specific to her due to anterograde amnesia.

Touma exhibits a self-sacrificing personality, consistently intervening to help others regardless of personal risk. He declares, "I don't need a reason to save someone," and often vows to "destroy that illusion" before critical battles. This instinct persists despite losing all memories predating July of the series' start, an event occurring when he protected Index from a magical spell. He conceals this amnesia from most characters, leading to a cautious approach in social interactions to avoid exploitation. His determination to aid others extends to former enemies, bearing no grudges and assisting them if requested.

During the Daihasei Festival arc in *A Certain Scientific Railgun T*, Touma appears briefly when Misaka Mikoto encounters him and Shokuhou Misaki retrieving drinks, amid a larger conflict involving Misaka Network clone safety. In a significant physical development, Touma's right arm was severed during World War III, temporarily unleashing a dragon-like entity called Dragon Strike, a manifestation feared by adversaries like Fiamma of the Right. His arm later regenerated naturally.

Touma grappled with distrust after his actions were manipulated to cause widespread suffering during the Baggage City incident. He overcame this during confrontations with figures like Leivinia Birdway, reaffirming his commitment to helping others despite potential manipulation. Allies and adversaries note his self-sacrificing nature as potentially self-destructive. In the Omega World arc, created by Magic God Othinus, he reached deep despair and contemplated suicide but ultimately chose to fight for his original, imperfect world, acknowledging his own desires rather than solely acting for others' sake.
